JOB SUMMARY:

Our client provides comprehensive logistical solutions, transport and warehousing, to their clients and is recruiting for an OPERATIONAL MANAGER, to be based in the Breede River Valley.

The position is responsible for the optimal operation of the transport and logistics operations (fleet of, among others, 100 trucks) and the establishment of innovative practices to achieve the goal. The effective management and development of human resources is a central part of the position. The position also provides an opportunity for growth, development and promotion.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

Strategic planning as part of the management team
Profitable operation of the transport operations
Optimal utilisation of the vehicle fleet
Application of technology to ensure effective operations and service
Effective cost management and establishment and implementation of measures / practices to limit costs sustainably
Operational management and service of key contract clients
Manage and control the preventive maintenance of the fleet
Effective management of Operating Units in PE, Epping, Gauteng and Worcester
Warehouse Management & Responsible for 3 Depots (Worcester, Epping and Port Elizabeth)
Compliance with all relevant legislation and RTMS requirements
Human resource management
Management of labor relations and human resource development
Limitation of damages and claims in respect of Goods in Transit
Weekend service 1 X per month

REQUIREMENTS:

Appropriate tertiary qualification (relevant degree)
Experience and knowledge of the transport industry / logistics
Experience in a management position and human resource management
Computer literate - minimum Excel, email, internet usage. Highly recommended: Datatim or any other scheduling software, Pulse IT or any other tracking software, Fuelmanager or similar fuel management software, experience in customer demand planning systems
Proven experience in managing labor relations and applying disciplinary procedures
Good communication skills in Afrikaans and English
Dedicated person who takes ownership and is accountable
Take initiative and think innovatively
Maintain excellent human relations with subordinates, colleagues and clients
Function effectively under pressure

Ability to handle conflict effectively
