SUMMARY:
A South African based, first-class engineering services company is seeking a highly skilled Overhead Line (OHL) Engineer with proven experience in 132kV transmission projects. This role will see you involved in the full project lifecycle—from conceptual design and route selection through to construction supervision and commissioning. You will play a key part in ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective delivery of major transmission infrastructure.

POSITION INFO:
Duties:

Lead and support the design, analysis, and detailing of 132kV overhead line systems, including towers, poles, foundations, conductors, and insulators.
Prepare and review engineering drawings, technical reports, and specifications.
Conduct line routing studies (GIS, environmental, and technical considerations).
Ensure compliance with international and local standards (IEC, IEEE, Eskom/utility standards, etc.).
Provide technical input during tenders, estimation, and feasibility studies.
Oversee construction, quality assurance, and site inspections to ensure safe and compliant installations.
Collaborate with civil, structural, and electrical teams to integrate OHL systems into broader transmission projects.
Drive innovation in materials, methods, and designs to reduce costs and improve reliability.

Requirements:

BEng / BSc / BTech in Electrical or Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
ECSA registration as Pr Eng / Pr Tech Eng (preferred).
5+ years’ experience in the design and/or construction of 132kV overhead transmission lines.
Strong knowledge of international standards (IEC, IEEE, CIGRÉ, and SANS).
Proficiency in OHL design software (e.g., PLS-CADD, PLS-Tower, and PLS-Pole) is highly advantageous.
Demonstrated experience in project management, cost estimation, and tendering.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to liaise with clients, contractors, and regulators.
Safety-first mindset with proven knowledge of HSE standards in transmission line projects.
