JOB DESCRIPTION:

Short Summary:

The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure the effective operation of the packaging plant with a high focus on maximising outputs, and assisting the Packaging Plant Manager with all Quality, housekeeping, Food Safety, Health and Safety and technical aspects of managing the Packaging Plant. The purpose is also to be able to provide relief to the Packaging Plant Manager.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintain workflow by monitoring steps of the process; observing control points and equipment; implementing cost reductions, and facilitating corrections to malfunctions within process control points.
  • Proactively plan production according to the budget, demand and planning schedule.
  • Complete production plan of packaging plant by scheduling and assigning priorities; monitoring progress; revising schedules; resolving problems and reporting results.
  • Communicate daily oil requirements with sales and production planning to ensure the availability of all oils and blends of oils.
  • Ensure that the products are produced on time and are meeting quality requirements.
  • Ensure efficient and accurate setup of production equipment.
  • Assist and guide Supervisor with continuous support regarding the setup of the packaging line equipment to ensure maximum efficiency.
  • Monitor product standards and implement quality-control programs.
  • Interact with the QC department and make recommendations for improvement and ensure new requirements are communicated and implemented.
  • Monitor the production processes and adjust schedules as needed.
  • Ensure all changes are communicated to all relevant parties.
  • Plan shifts according to the production plan must be continuously monitored and communicated to production personnel to ensure availability to complete production according to the plan.
  • Manage and motivate bottling staff and achieve results.
  • Maintain quality service by establishing and enforcing organizational standards.
  • Ensure a safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of all control points, equipment, and resources; maintain compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Control and evaluate ingredients and packaging materials transferred to the bottling area.
  • Be responsible for managing the process of receiving stock receipts to the bottling area.
  • Continuously monitor the line and process efficiencies and daily and monthly reporting thereof.
  • Ensure accurate daily and monthly production reporting and capturing.
  • Ensure that Food Safety standards and regulations are met within the area of responsibility.
  • Continuously ensure plant availability through reporting and follow-up of maintenance schedules.
Key Competencies:

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of Grade 12 or NQF Level 4
  • Proven knowledge of engineering and technology principles and practices regarding an FMCG plant
  • Knowledge of FSSC and Quality systems and standards
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards and compliance
  • Knowledge of business, finance and management principles
  • Knowledge of human resource principles and practices
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, SAP, and Frameworks
  • Technical ability to ensure all equipment on the line is set up to deliver maximum line outputs
  • Good understanding and technical ability to fill line equipment setup
  • Previous experience in an FMCG environment
  • Previous experience regarding bottle filling lines
