Plant Maintenance Technician

SUMMARY:
Our client in Port Elizabeth is looking for a Plant Maintenance Technician to join their Engineering Department. The successful candidate will support operations by maintaining, calibrating, troubleshooting, repairing and optimizing all facilities and manufacturing equipment to ensure maximum uptime and reliability.

POSITION INFO:

Min Required Qualification:

• Trade Test certificate: Millwright
• At least 18 months Mechanical/Electrical/Mechatronics Engineering qualification or PLC; SCADA & Batch Management Software’s certification training program
• SAP-EAM and Project Management training certificates
• 5 years’ experience as a Millwright/Technician maintenance or project environment (preferably in the manufacturing Chemical Industry)

Preferred Qualification:

• Tertiary qualification in Mechanical/Electrical/Mechatronics Engineering
• Wireman’s license
• Experience using SAP-EAM (advantageous)
• Projects Environment experience (advantageous)

Required Skills and Competencies:

• Computer literacy with working knowledge on Microsoft packages and SAP is essential
• Good verbal communication skills and basic report writing skills are essential
• Strong organizational skills and efficient time management skills are essential
• A sense of urgency (does things quickly and methodically), self-driven and resilient, work with
• minimal supervision and exercise independent judgement
• In-depth knowledge instrumentation and able to do calibrations and verifications
• In-depth knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems maintenance
• Ability to interpret PLC software and fault find in PLC software
• Ability to interpret SCADA and Batch Management software and use as a fault-finding tool
• Ability to diagnose, determine cause and effect, and repair equipment malfunctions
• An analytical approach to problem solving and ability to pay high attention to details as well as handle
• complexity (multiple challenges simultaneously)
• Shows an open attitude towards change and willing to adapt to changing priorities, process
• conditions and circumstances
• Ability to read and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, schematics, drawings, manuals and
• specifications

• Availability to work during non scheduled hours when necessary
• Own reliable transport and ability to do standby on a roster basis is essential

Position Summary:

• This position will support operations by maintaining, calibrating, troubleshooting, repairing and optimizing all facilities and manufacturing equipment in a safe and orderly fashion as directed by the Plant Maintenance Coordinator
• This position creates value for the facility by performing preventative and corrective maintenance leading to increased uptime and reliability, thus helping the facility to meet production and quality goals
• Perform preventive maintenance per defined interval/schedule in a timely manner and documents maintenance concerns/resolutions in an electronic SAP-EAM software, providing action plans and status reports as needed
• Recognizes and corrects potential equipment (Mechanical/Electrical/Hydraulic/Pneumatic etc..) failure or unsafe conditions and communicates this to Plant Maintenance Coordinator
• Provide detailed feedback on each job completed in electronic SAP-EAM software at the end of each day
• The position will able expected to respond to call-out requests as assigned, deal with emergency-based failures and repairs on short notice, and perform other duties as required.

Major Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

• Responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our machinery and equipment
• Perform preventative and predictive maintenance, repairs, inspections (assessing the functionality of production equipment and operational problems)
• Communicating effectively with the production team, communicate pertinent information to the next shift and maintaining a clean work area
• Perform and complete maintenance work order request
• Give detailed feedback of work orders, spare parts consumed, and time spent on specific work orders in SAP-EAM daily
• Performs daily plant critical checks and records results in Inspection Lots in SAP-EAM
• Fabricate items required during maintenance or set-up of equipment
• Read blueprints, diagrams, and schematic drawings to determine work procedures
• Respond to after hour call-out when required
• Control of spare parts used
• Maintain a clean and orderly work environment (Production plant, equipment and workshop) and corporate directives for the safe performance of the work assignment
• Provides support for a variety of projects by assisting with site preparation, on-site clean up and evaluation.
