Press Tool & Jig Designer

SUMMARY:
Brace Able Manufacturing (BAM) is looking for an experienced Press Tool & Jig Designer to design, develop and improve press tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, gauges and related tooling. The role requires strong technical design skills, practical tooling knowledge and experience in trials, troubleshooting and continuous improvement.

POSITION INFO:
Key Responsibilities: Design progressive, compound, blanking, bending, piercing and forming press tools. Design jigs, fixtures, gauges and assembly aids for manufacturing and inspection. Interpret component drawings, specifications and production requirements to develop suitable tooling concepts. Produce accurate 2D engineering drawings and 3D CAD models. Select appropriate tooling materials, standard components, clearances, tolerances and fits. Prepare Bills of Materials (BOMs) and detailed manufacturing drawings. Perform tooling calculations including material utilisation, bend allowances, press tonnage and cutting forces. Participate in tool trials and implement required design modifications. Troubleshoot tooling and production problems, including burrs, dimensional variation, tool wear, misalignment and component quality issues. Improve existing tooling to enhance tool life, quality, productivity and maintainability. Work closely with Toolroom, Production, Quality, Maintenance and Manufacturing Engineering. Liaise with toolmakers and machinists to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable. Support prototype and new-product development. Maintain engineering drawings, revision records, tooling documentation and design data. Assist with tooling cost estimates, material requirements and manufacturing lead times. Ensure tooling designs comply with applicable safety, quality and manufacturing requirements. Minimum Requirements: Qualifications Qualification in Tool & Die Making, Mechanical Design, Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Experience Required: 3-5 years'' relevant experience in press tool, die, jig, fixture or tooling design. Strong practical knowledge of sheet-metal manufacturing and press production processes. Proficiency in 3D CAD and 2D engineering drawings. Experience with one or more of the following CAD systems: SolidWorks AutoCAD CATIA Siemens NX or similar CAD software. Good understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T\/tolerances, fits and material specifications. Knowledge of machining processes such as milling, turning, grinding, EDM and wire cutting will be an advantage.
