JOB SUMMARY:
Our client based in Durban is looking for the Principal Engineer to To provide engineering inputs, support, recommendations and advice to the Company for the planning, design and execution of projects and for the management of infrastructure assets.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Key Performance Areas

Infrastructure Planning

Updating and managing an infrastructure master plan that guide the Company board and investment committee for future development.
Liaison with key stakeholders, including municipal and provincial technical and planning departments on infrastructural requirements for future developments within a planned development area in excess of 3000ha. These would include the provision of the following but not limited to:
a. sufficient electricity for future development
b. adequate sewer services
c. road network
d. alternative energy
e. effluent treatment works

Engineering Design Inputs

Preparation of engineering concepts for infrastructure projects ranging from a minimum value to projects to in excess of R600m per project.
Engineering input, design approval for public bulk infrastructure, such as water and sanitation treatment works, construction platforms, roads, electricity, stormwater system, aircraft taxiways as well office building and related structures and associated projects. This includes all stages, including conceptual, preliminary and detailed design as well as construction supervision and acceptance testing.
Assess engineering aspects of 3rd party developer proposals in the design review panel in relation to the engineering services, so as to ensure that designs are compliant with National Building Regulations and the DTPC precinct design guidelines. Monitor and accept buildings and infrastructure delivered by 3rd party developers.

Implementation Phase Technical and Project Management Inputs

Provide engineering oversight to the management of the Company’s infrastructure assets.
Assist with technical inputs to infrastructure maintenance matters.
Support other divisions such as Planning with technical inputs.

People Management

Manage and motivate staff to achieve maximum performance by training, mentoring & skills development.
Ensure all Job Descriptions, Performance Agreements and Performance Assessments for staff are compiled, completed and finalised timeously.
Plan for and manage recruitment needs for the area of responsibility.
Ensures that the working environment contributes to improving staff morale and increasing productivity.
Provides leadership that demonstrates the values of the Company.

Qualifications, Knowledge

BSc Eng (Civil), B-Eng(Civil) and B-Tech(Civil)
Registered as a Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa
10 Years’ experience of which 5 years are post registration
Knowledge of principles of infrastructure design and management
Knowledge of legislation applicable to infrastructure project development
Registered as a Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa
Civil infrastructure design experience
Able to apply knowledge of engineering standards such as Red handbook, EThekwini Standards, structural design standards such as SANS and COLTO
Able to apply knowledge of GCC,JBCC and FIDIC contracts
Experience in Framework Infrastructure Delivery and Procurement Management (FIDPM)
