JOB SUMMARY:
A vacancy for a Principal Resource Geologist has become available in our Johannesburg office.  Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the vacancy. The successful candidate will report to the SBU Partner.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Description:

A qualified individual with experience in geological modelling and Mineral Resource estimation, and an understanding of exploration methods, drilling and sampling standards, data management and Quality Assurance and Quality Control with regards to geological measurement is a priority. The applicant would be expected to undertake technical work independently, develop a client base and have a good understanding of Project Management.

Experience and Skills:

The candidate must:
  • Be a registered member of Pr Sci Nat.
  • Have a BSc Hons in Geology or equivalent relevant qualification.
  • Have a minimum of 10 - 15 years of relevant working experience in mine/exploration geology and Mineral Resource estimation.
  • Be able to use QAQC tools to ascertain accuracy of geological and assay measurements.
  • Have extensive knowledge of mine geology and grade estimation techniques.
  • Be able to operate geological modelling and geostatistical software at an advanced level. Experience with Leapfrog, Datamine, Surpac and Isatis is an advantage.
  • Be conversant with the major international reporting codes.
  • Have excellent technical report and proposal writing skills.
  • Experience of working with a variety of commodities is an advantage.
Duties and Responsibilities
The candidate’s primary duties and responsibilities are:
  • Supporting the SBU partner in marketing the technical capabilities of the SBU with the aim of creating work for him/herself and junior staff.
  • Provide technical support on projects and skills transfer to junior staff members.
  • Independently managing projects (from proposal stage to project completion stage). This includes acting as project manager on multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Travelling to site where/when necessary to physically inspect Projects/Operations.
  • Independently reviewing Project/Operation data and reports consistent with applicable codes/guidelines and making well-informed decisions/findings.
  • Compiling technical reports in general and consistent with the major international reporting codes.
