They compile technical specifications, cost estimates, and engineering reports for commercial and municipal tenders . The Role: Process Engineer (Water Treatment) The purpose of this role is to design, optimise, and troubleshoot water and wastewater treatment processes . Reporting to the Head of Engineering or Technical Director , the position requires a strong balance of mechanical\/civil process engineering principles and aquatic chemistry to translate laboratory and chemical analysis into robust engineering designs and operational solutions . Key Responsibilities Utilize a minimum of 5 years of process engineering experience specifically within the industrial\/municipal water and wastewater treatment industry . Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), mass and energy balances, and hydraulic profiles for new plants or system upgrades . Analyse complex water quality data, including organic loading, heavy metals, scaling indices, and COD\/BOD fractions . Design optimal chemical conditioning regimes, including coagulation-flocculation kinetics, advanced oxidation, and membrane cleaning (CIP) protocols . Lead the commissioning of new water treatment infrastructure . Diagnose and resolve chronic process upsets, biological failures, and membrane fouling issues across various sites . Evaluate innovative water treatment technologies, such as MBR, MBBR, DAF, and direct potable reuse systems, and integrate them into standardized product offerings . Compile technical specifications, cost estimates, and engineering reports for commercial and municipal tenders . About You Minimum 5 years of process engineering experience specifically within the industrial\/municipal water and wastewater treatment industry . BEng, BSc, or BTech in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or Polymer\/Applied Chemistry with a heavy engineering focus . Proficiency in CAD, process simulation software, and MS Office suite . Registration (or eligibility to register) with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) or Professional Technologist (Pr.Tech Eng) (highly preferred) .
