Production Planning Manager

POSITION INFO:

Position Purpose / Objective:

The Production Planning Manager will lead the areas of master scheduling, rough cut planning, production planning, enabling stock and buffer stock management to support the successful execution of manufacturing and meeting Customer Commitments. This position provides overall leadership, development and supervision of the planning department. It will be accomplished by focusing efforts on improving efficiency and accuracy in the schedule of production. The successful candidate has a results-driven mentality concentrated on coaching, motivating, and leading a team to achieve stretch targets while supporting the company goals and company strategic initiatives through collaborative teamwork across departments.

Minimum Requirements:

Qualifications:

Qualified Planner
A tertiary qualification on production management or equivalent would be highly advantageous
Degreed Mechanical Engineer or related qualification advantageous

Experience:

Minimum 5 years’ experience in a heavy engineering manufacturing environment
Minimum 3 years production supervision / management experience
Previous experience in working in a unionized environment

Computer Proficiency:

Intermediate Computer Proficiency on Microsoft AX
Experienced in Preactor APS will be advantageous
The ability to operate and draw reports/data from the ERP system

Other:

The ability to read, analyze and understand the reports produced from a scheduling system (Preactor)
Knowledge of production methodologies including Lean manufacturing, theory of constraints, etc. would be advantageous
Must be able to read, understand and interpret technical drawings
The ability to read and understand a set of expense accounts

Duties and Responsibilities:

Master Schedule:

Sets master production plan
Coordinate plan to ensure OTD
Engagement with Tech Admin and Procurement to align with master production plan (MPP)
Engagement with Sales to set and agree on Customer Commitment Dates

Additional duties

Determines best practices and develops actionable insights and recommendations for the current business operations and ERP system enhancing business decision making capabilities.
Works collaboratively across the organization to ensure successful execution of inventory control strategies and production control initiatives.
Analyzes inventory data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement to stocking levels and customer fill rate.
Control inventory of goods needed for forecasted part sales and scheduled distribution.
Manage item coverage levels, min/max/multiple order quantities, cycle count procedure, and daily/monthly cycle count processes to optimize production, minimize inventory costs and meet corporate requirements.
Reviews and approves all cycle count variances.
Reports quarterly on raw, WIP, FG inventory levels, inventory turns by better plate utilization and to improve data driven inventory control decision-making.
Run WIP report at year end and determine which items to include in year-end WIP inventory.
Creates and facilitates maintenance of departmental process documentation system to promote standard work and process integrity.
Assist IT in developing procedural changes regarding ERP system usage working collaboratively with other departments and 3rd party developers.
Works with accounting personnel and outside auditors as needed throughout the year.
