Programme Manager

Brief description

The main purpose of this position is to manage large Information & Technology (I&T) programmes and to ensure that such projects are delivered to specification, within budget, quality and on time.

Detailed description The successful candidate will be responsible for the following

Key performance areas:

  • Drive the successful delivery of identified large Programme(s)/Projects in partnership with the relevant Business Unit within the bank.
  • Prioritise projects and new requests in collaboration with relevant business and department stakeholders to enable strategic alignment and optimal resource allocation.
  • Facilitate the development of business case (where applicable) and project initiation documents in accordance with the Programme Management Office methodology, clearly defining and approving the purpose and business motivation.
  • Allocate project managers and agree on the allocation of project team members to ensure effective skills utilisation.
  • Oversee delivery by project managers according to approved schedules, and produce the expected deliverables within budget and according to specification and quality standards.
  • Fulfil the line management function pertaining to the development and performance of project managers and administrators within the team.
  • Coach and mentor the project managers and administrators within the team by providing leadership and motivation.
  • Conduct programme meetings to consolidate reporting and manage risks and constraints, ensuring cohesion, consistency, and integrity of output. Manage specific projects as and when required in accordance with workload or as assigned.
  • Engage with and present to senior-level stakeholders within the bank at various stages of projects’ life cycles.
  • Ensure compliance to procurement and other governance processes during the programme lifecycle.
  • Ensure effective partnering with solution and implementation partners, based on agreed contracts and service level.

Job requirements

To be considered for this position, candidates must be in possession of:

  • Honour’s degree in Project or Programme Management/Computer Science/Information Technology or an equivalent (NQF8) qualification; and
  • At least eight years’ job-related experience of which at least 2 years in a team leader capacity.

  • Proficiency in English (both verbal and written);

  • Continued learning and/or professional development knowledge and skill Project management knowledge and skill;
  • Project portfolio and programme management knowledge and skill; Project reporting knowledge and skill;
  • Project financial management knowledge and skill;
  • Contract and service management knowledge and skill;
  • Exposure to large-scale transformation programmes;
  • Exposure to the finance industry (e.g. banks, insurers etc.); and Exposure to regulatory programmes and projects.
