SUMMARY:
This national manufacturing concern currently have a 6-month fixed term contract for an experienced Project & Technical Manager. Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will lead and manage the Project function in order to meet business objectives and lead and manage the Technical Development function in order to achieve company objectives.

POSITION INFO:

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • B.Sc in Engineering.
  • National Diploma: Project Management or similar Project Management qualification.
  • Read and interpret Engineering Drawings.
  • Apply a range of project management tools and techniques.
  • Fundamentals of project management.
  • MS Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook, MS Projects).

Key Performance Areas:

Financial Management:

  • Provide input into the budget process.
  • Monitor performance against budget (expense controls, variances, etc.).
  • Initiate requests for CAPEX/Disposal/Transfers.
  • Participate in the Audit process.
  • Adhere to Financial Policies and Procedures.
  • Protect company assets (working capital & fixed assets).
  • Detect and prevent fraud.
  • Promote good Corporate Governance.

Project Strategy:

  • Develop the Projects Strategic Plan and ensure implementation.
  • Provide leadership to the Project teams.
  • Achieve/exceed the annual Project Plan in accordance to individual Project budgets.

Project Initiation:

  • Identify opportunities for improvements with internal and external customers and propose alternative solutions.
  • Conduct project feasibility studies to establish the viability of proposed projects.
  • Contribute to project initiation, scope definition and scope change control.
  • Participate in the estimation and preparation of cost budgets for projects or sub projects and monitor and control actual cost against budget.
  • Obtain approval for Projects.
  • Initiate Technical Development Projects emanating from the market place or as a result of new technical knowledge gained.

Project Planning:

  • Schedule project activities to facilitate effective project execution.
  • Identify, organise and co-ordinate project life cycle phases for control purposes.

Design & Drawing:

  • Approve internal and external drawings.

Project Management:

  • Support the project environment and activities to deliver project objectives.
  • Contribute to the management of project risk within own field of expertise.
  • Identify, suggest and implement corrective actions to improve quality of project work.
  • Evaluate and improve the project team''s performance.
  • Commission machines and equipment or pilot and test new/existing products.

Project Administration:

  • Implement project administration processes according to requirements.
  • Conduct project documentation management to support project processes.

Reporting:

  • Compile project reports and presentations.

Technical Development:

  • Investigate requests from Sales and Marketing and customers for new products or processes.
  • Investigate other business opportunities that offer suitable returns for the company.
  • Make recommendations for the development of feasible products and processes.
  • Responsible for new developments until the new product or process has been successfully commissioned or commercialised.

Technical Support:

  • Evaluate alternate raw materials, processes, technologies.
  • Provide a "trouble-shooting" service to the factory and the sales force, where technical problems are encountered.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Benchmark manufacturing processes and technology against Best Practices.
  • Continually measure, monitor and provide improvement plans for improving business systems efficiency and cost reduction program’s.
  • Recommend establishment of Technical alliances where considered beneficial.
  • Implement and maintain Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Conduct Research & Development of new/existing technologies/plant/products.
  • Benchmark Project processes and systems against Best Practices.
  • Manage Continuous Improvement initiatives:
    • Kaizen
    • Quality Circles
    • Six Sigma
    • Standardised Work
  • VA/VE (Value Added/Value Engineered)

SHE:

  • Conduct continuous Risk Assessments and Planned Task Observations in the workplace.
  • Identify potential hazards and critical safety issues.
  • Address workplace hazards and risks.
  • Apply safety, health and environment practices and legal requirements when working on machines and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with legal provisions, regulations and standards.

Quality Management System:

  • Manage and implement the Projects Quality Assurance system.
  • Notify the Quality department of any quality non-conformances.
  • Ensure compliance with the Quality Systems.
