Property Accountant

POSITION INFO:
A well-established organisation within the property sector is looking for a detail-oriented Property Accountant to join its finance team. Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, this role offers the opportunity to gain exposure to financial reporting, statutory compliance, VAT, tax, and audit processes while supporting a diverse property portfolio. This is an excellent opportunity for an accountant who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment where accuracy, analytical thinking, and strong technical accounting skills are highly valued. Key Responsibilities: Manage the day-to-day financial accounting for a portfolio of property entities. Ensure transactions are accurately recorded across the general ledger, supplier ledger, customer ledger, and relevant entities. Review expense allocations and posting batches for accuracy. Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations. Process monthly journals, including depreciation, accruals, provisions, amortisation, and other adjustments. Maintain and reconcile the Fixed Asset Register. Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports. Analyse income statement variances and provide commentary. Assist with the preparation and review of financial statements. Prepare VAT reconciliations and submit VAT returns to SARS. Support VAT and SARS audits, including responding to queries. Assist with year-end reporting, external audits, and tax calculations. Ensure financial records remain accurate, complete, and compliant. Provide support to the Financial Controller and assist with ad hoc finance projects. Job Experience and Skills Required: Completed Finance, Accounting, or related tertiary qualification. Minimum 3 years' experience in a similar accounting role. Previous experience within the property industry will be highly advantageous. Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting. Experience preparing management accounts and balance sheet reconciliations. Sound knowledge of VAT and SARS compliance. Experience with journals, fixed assets, and month-end processes. Exposure to external audits and statutory reporting. Strong Microsoft Excel skills. Experience on MDA Property Management Software is highly advantageous. Apply now!
