Our client a dynamic vibrant company supplying the building industry with aggregates, readymix and precast elements (hollowcore and stairs) are recruiting a Quarry Manager
The person will take charge of a granite open cast mine as well as a sand mine. This position reports to the Operational Manager.
Responsibilities will include but is not limited to the following:
- General managing of the day-to-day operations, which will include adherence to Health & Safety protocols
- Production Efficiency by ensuring that the daily targets are met, action on issues when arise (such as plant or fleet breakdowns, staff absentees, incidents, technical issues, client complaints etc.)
- Arrange and plan for drilling and blasting
- Ensure machinery is properly maintained, and being operated according to stipulated legal requirements and safety standards
- Ensure maintenance schedules are properly managed – which includes proper preventative maintenance planning
- Take responsibility of the quality of material produced
- Manage, prepare for and facilitate monthly DMRE inspections – ensure compliance
- Ensure compliance with Mine Health and Safety Act
- Ensure compliance of the mine’s Environmental Management Programme (EMP)
- Report and action incidents according to procedure and assist with investigation and resolution
- Manage, follow up and close out client queries and complaints and keep clients in the loop (provide continuous feedback)
Minimum Requirements:
- Examine and Make Safe qualification
- Open cast blasting ticket
- NQF5 will be a bonus
- Excellent management and customer service skills
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in relevant technical, production and planning fields
- Excellent communication, problem solving and team management skill
Salary & hours
- This position offers a market-related salary - dependent on previous experience and qualifications.
- Employees become members of a provident fund after their probation period.
- The annual close down is in December/January during the builder’s holiday.
- Working hours are from 07:00 to 17:30, but only until 15:00 on a Friday.
