Registered Clinic Nurse

SUMMARY:
The Allergy and Immunology Unit (AIU), based at the University of Cape Town Lung Institute (www.lunginstitute.co.za),
require applications for a REGISTERED CLINIC NURSE*, who will be responsible for overseeing and treating private patients.
 
The Allergy and Immunology Unit was established in 2000 to provide state of the art clinical and laboratory services for the diagnosis and management of allergic and immune-based disease, with a mission to transform lives of patients through innovative science and compassionate care.

POSITION INFO:
Minimum Requirements:

• Degree / Diploma in General Nursing
• 2 - 5 years’ experience in clinical work (Private or Community Clinics)
• Prior working experience in Phlebotomy advantageous
• Previous diagnostics experience (advantageous)
• Any experience in Allergy, Immunology or Dermatology
• Computer Literacy (proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Fluency in English and a second language (Afrikaans and / or isiXhosa)
• Good interpersonal, communication and time management skills
• Excellent organisational skills

• Perform all clinical duties (blood pressure test, lung function tests, skin pricks, weight and height)
• Immunotherapy – treatment of desensitisation of allergies by using various methods
• Administer bee venom injections (to be monitored half hourly)
• Perform phlebotomy procedures and insertion of peripheral IV lines
• Ensure pathology is stocked for blood-taking
• Prepare laboratory specimens for shipping or transporting to laboratory
• Management of patient records, laboratory, procedure results and other administration related to the clinic
• Accuracy at interpreting allergy results
• Keep record of and share stats with Doctors
• Clinical related computer work and liaising with patients answering emails as soon as possible
• Ensure clinic is well-stocked and order consumables when required
• Patient education

• Working Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
• 12-month fixed term contract
• Position will be based at the UCT Lung Institute in Mowbray, Cape Town
