Key Responsibilities

Fire Safety Design & Engineering

• Design and analysis of fire detection, suppression, evacuation and life safety systems.
• Prepare rational design fire engineering reports and fire safety strategies compliant with SANS 10400-T and other codes (e.g., NFPA, BS).
• Conduct fire risk assessments and hazard analyses.

• Ensure plans meet legislative requirements (building regulations, fire codes etc.).
• Interact with authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ) to obtain approvals and occupancy certificates.
• Produce and review technical specifications, calculations and engineering design documentation.

• Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, MEP teams and contractors.
• Lead or support fire engineering input across multi-disciplinary project phases.
• Present design concepts and technical findings to clients or regulators.

• Requires: accredited engineering degree, ~3–5 years supervised experience, submission of technical reports, and successful Professional Review Interview.

1. Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr Tech Eng)

• Practical / technological focus; recognised for detailed engineering application.
• Suitable for some fire design roles depending on employer and scope.
