Research & Development Manager

SUMMARY:
A leading agricultural company is seeking an experienced R&D Manager to lead innovation in fertilizer development and crop nutrition. This is a hands-on leadership role, taking products from concept to commercialization while managing a high-performing R&D team.

POSITION INFO:

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development of innovative fertilizer products
• Drive research initiatives across lab, greenhouse, and field trials
• Improve product performance and crop yield outcomes
• Define and execute the R&D roadmap aligned to market needs
• Manage projects, budgets, and timelines
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners
• Mentor and develop a strong technical team

Key Qualifications & Requirements

• Master’s Degree in a field of Biotechnology (Biochemistry, Microbiology, Plant Physiology, Chemistry) or Traditional Agronomy
• A minimum of 10 years’ experience in the Agriculture Industry
• 5+ years of experience leading teams
• Fluent in Afrikaans/English would be advantageous

Required Behavioral Competencies

• Strong technical background in Agronomy, Soil Science, Chemistry, or Biotechnology
• Proven R&D experience in fertilizers, crop nutrition, or Agri-inputs
• Track record of taking products from concept to commercialization
• Experience delivering measurable improvements in product efficacy or development timelines
• Leadership experience managing R&D teams
• Hands-on approach with both science and strategy
