Research & Development Manager

A leading company within the agricultural sector is seeking a highly experienced Research & Development Manager to drive innovation and lead the development of cutting-edge fertilizer solutions. This role is responsible for managing research initiatives across laboratory, greenhouse, and field trial environments, while ensuring the successful development, optimisation, and commercialisation of new products.

The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing scientific research, improving product performance, and leading a high-performing team to support business growth and maintain a competitive market position.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the research, development, and optimisation of innovative fertilizer products.
• Oversee laboratory, greenhouse, and field trial programmes to evaluate product efficacy and performance.
• Manage and coordinate research projects from concept through to commercial implementation.
• Analyse research data and prepare technical reports and recommendations.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives and process optimisation.
• Lead, mentor, and develop multidisciplinary research teams.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align product development with business objectives and market demands.
• Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards.
• Support product registration activities and the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Minimum Requirements

• Master''s Degree in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Plant Physiology, Chemistry, Agronomy, or a related scientific field.
• Minimum of 10 years'' experience within the agricultural industry.
• At least 5 years'' experience in a leadership or management role.
• Proven experience in fertilizer research, development, and product innovation.
• Hands-on experience managing laboratory, greenhouse, and field trials.
• Strong project management, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Advanced reporting and data interpretation skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Project.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Advantageous

• Experience with product registration processes and regulatory compliance.
• Knowledge of SOP development and implementation.
• Proficiency in both Afrikaans and English.
