JOB DESCRIPTION:

Main purpose of the job:

  • Conducting day-to-day research-related activities including participant recruitment, data collection, capturing, calling of participants, and quality assurance
  • The Research Assistant will also support research operations in the day-to-day administration and management of sentinel surveillance sites

Location:

  • Ward 21 CRS - 22 Esselen street, Hillbrow, Johannesburg

Key performance areas:

  • Adhere to project protocols, GCP, and local requirements for the ethical conduct of research in human participants
  • Maintain the project files and the filing system
  • Complete all relevant project administration as and when required
  • Support data collection and data capturing as per GCP
  • Participate in monitoring of study performance, including compilation and review of relevant indicators daily, weekly and monthly
  • Storage and archiving of data as per the SOPs
  • Support quality assurance by reviewing data to identify missing information and trigger the completion pathway
  • Plan and conduct regular site visits to conduct data quality assessments and ascertain data-related issues
  • Follow through with action plans and data clean-up activities resulting from assessments
  • Participate in (to support data use)
  • Support team with any other research-related activities
  • Participate in data review and regular planning sessions with line manager and/or team
  • Liaise with facility Team Leaders for submission of relevant data
  • Compile prescribed reports for timely submission to the relevant stakeholders
  • Distribute data and reports to relevant team members and management
  • Ensure report queries from M&E technical team are resolved timeously within the reporting timelines set by the M&E reporting portfolio
  • Implement quality improvement plans set out by the project
  • Provide support to ensure appropriate data flow and data quality is maintained
  • Maintain accurate records to document support provided, processes, and outputs to report to the M&E team
  • Maintain a positive attitude and respond openly to feedback

Required minimum education and training:

  • Matric (Diploma and Degree advantage)
  • Fluent in English and at least one local language
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Computer literate with fluency in MS Office

Required minimum work experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of working experience in a clinical research environment

Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:

  • Post matric qualification (degree or diploma)
  • Certification in good clinical practice
  • Able to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ordered and systematic with strict compliance to protocols and good administrative skills
  • Able to work under pressure and adhere to deadlines
