Research Executive (Retail Census)
Functional Description:
The Research Executive manages end-to-end retail census and in-store audit projects, overseeing fieldwork, data collection, and quality control to ensure accurate retail universe mapping. They analyse outlet and distribution data to identify coverage gaps, market opportunities, and competitive insights. The role also involves preparing reports and presentations, while working closely with clients and internal teams to deliver actionable insights that support sales and distribution strategy.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage retail census projects end-to-end, ensuring full coverage and execution against approved map lots and sampling plans
- Develop detailed project plans, fieldwork protocols, and census-specific questionnaires
- Coordinate and train field teams on census methodology, channel classification, and data quality standards
- Oversee fieldwork progress, and ensure accurate store enumeration
- Implement strict quality control measures, including validations, spot checks, and data audits
- Analyse census outputs and deliver clear, actionable reports and presentations to internal and client stakeholders
- Mentor and support Field staff to maintain high performance and accountability
- Design proposals, questionnaires, and analysis plans Foster team development
- Mentor and support a growing research team
Requirements:
- Degree level education – Honours in Social Sciences, Masters in Research Psychology or Marketing degree preferable.
- Minimum 3 years of full-service market research experience in a research agency as an account manager, research executive, or project manager. Experience in retail tracking/audits is a plus.
- Extensive knowledge of various research methodologies across different industries.
- Ability to understand client issues and processes to contribute to discussions, research design, and analysis.
- Capable of managing projects with minimal supervision, taking the initiative, overseeing timelines and milestones, and proactively updating the team.
- Experience in a fast-paced environment with multiple responsibilities.
- Strong management, administrative, and computer literacy skills (including Zoom/MS Teams, Office Suite, particularly Excel).
- Experience with Spatial XL, QGIS, or other geospatial data tools is advantageous.
- Experience in Retail Census Projects is advantageous.
