Summary of the Role As a Retail Financial Sales Consultant, you will actively engage customers on the retail floor and turn everyday store visits into meaningful financial conversations. This is not a desk-based role. You will be expected to confidently approach customers, ask the right questions, understand their needs and introduce suitable Dis-Chem Life insurance solutions. Key Responsibilities Proactively engage customers throughout the store rather than waiting for customers to approach you. Identify suitable opportunities to start conversations with customers in a natural, respectful and confident way. Ask thoughtful questions to understand customers’ immediate needs, financial concerns and family responsibilities. Introduce and explain Dis-Chem Life’s funeral, individual life and other insurance solutions in simple, relatable language. Turn initial conversations into meaningful consultations and quality sales opportunities. Recommend solutions that are relevant to the customer’s needs, circumstances and affordability. Build trust quickly through strong listening, confident communication and genuine interest in the customer. Guide customers through the digital quotation, application and verification process. Use a tablet, computer, CRM system and other digital tools to manage customer information, follow-ups and sales activity. Maintain an active pipeline of prospective customers and follow up consistently on opportunities. Work collaboratively with store teams, including customer-facing employees, to create awareness and generate appropriate customer referrals. Achieve agreed sales, conversion, activity and customer-service targets. Maintain accurate records and complete all required customer and compliance documentation. Protect customers by following all approved sales, advice, quality and Treating Customers Fairly requirements. Take ownership of product knowledge, training and ongoing professional development. Represent Dis-Chem Life professionally and contribute positively to the customer experience inside the store. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS AND BEHAVIOURAL REQUIREMENTS Naturally personable and comfortable engaging with people from diverse backgrounds. Confident initiating conversations and building rapport with customers you have never met. Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to establish trust quickly. Excellent listening skills with the ability to identify customer needs and opportunities. Communicates information clearly, simply and confidently. Resilient and able to remain positive and motivated in the face of rejection. Self-motivated and able to maintain momentum during both busy and quieter trading periods. EXPERIENCE AND PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS 2 + Years proven experience within a customer-facing retail sales environment. Demonstrated success in face-to-face sales, promotions, customer acquisition or consultative selling. Experience working in a fast-paced retail environment with high customer volumes. Ability to work retail hours. Proven ability to engage customers, generate opportunities and convert conversations into outcomes. Comfortable promoting, demonstrating, consulting on and closing products or services face-to-face. Proven track record of working towards and achieving sales or performance targets. Minimum Requirements Matric (National Senior Certificate ), NQF4 or equivalent qualification. Demonstrated experience in a customer-facing retail sales environment. Proven face-to-face sales experience in which you were required to approach, engage, advise or sell directly to customers. A track record of working towards individual sales, conversion, revenue or customer-activity targets. Strong spoken communication, listening and relationship-building skills. Computer literacy and confidence using tablets, mobile applications, digital forms and customer-management systems. A professional, well-groomed and brand-appropriate personal presentation. The ability to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays when required. Reliable transport to and from the allocated store. Willingness to complete financial-services product, compliance and regulatory training. Ability to meet the applicable Fit and Proper requirements as the role develops. Advantageous Qualifications and Experience The following would strengthen your application but are not entry requirements : An NQF Level 5 qualification. A diploma or degree in finance, financial planning, business, marketing, retail management or a related field. Previous experience selling insurance, financial products, mobile contracts, memberships, automotive products or other consultative consumer solutions. Experience conducting product demonstrations, activations, promotions or in-store campaigns. Experience working in a traditional retail environment. The Reality of the Role This role requires you to be active and visible on the retail floor. You will speak to customers who did not necessarily arrive at the store planning to discuss insurance. You will need to create interest respectfully, earn their attention and show them why the conversation may matter to them and their families. Some customers will say yes. Some will say no. Others will require patient follow-up. You must be comfortable with all three. If you prefer waiting for customers to approach you, avoiding sales targets or working mainly behind a desk, this role will not be the right fit.
