JOB SUMMARY:
One of SA’s well reputable automotive/ IT/ Internet companies based in Randburg is looking for an experienced SQL DBA to join their team on a permanent basis. You will design, build and maintain documentation while working closely with the infrastructure operations team. They have a hybrid working model.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Qualifications:

Matric
National Diploma or Degree in Information Technology
Microsoft SQL Server certification
MCDBA and / or MCTS certification

Requirements:

3+ years’ experience in SQL as a Database Administrator, including server architecture.
Experience in SQL server capacity management, load balancing, clustering and other associated technologies.
Broad knowledge of database security and associated best practices.
Documentation skills with the ability define processes.
Experience in production implementation would be ideal.
Able to handle multiple demands with a high sense of urgency, drive and energy.
Work well under pressure with the ability to deliver on time.
Ability to work in a team-oriented environment which fast-paced and demanding.
Must be self-directed, with excellent initiative and organizational skills.
Work extended hours.
Willing to travel.

Job & Company Description:

Support application teams as a database administrator, running RDBMS technologies multi-node instances.
Support one NoSQL technology as a DBA.
ITIL - change management, problem management, incident management etc. - procedures using tools like: Service Now and BMC Remedy.
Migrating relational / SQL environments to NoSQL environments.
Pro-actively evaluate evolving technologies and recommend solutions to business problems.
Set up, monitor and troubleshoot all popular relational databases.
Troubleshoot and resolve database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, log shipping issues, connectivity issues and security issues etc.
Master Performance Tuning, Query Optimization, using the appropriate monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
Oracle performance monitoring tools and methods.
Expert with physical and logical schema design and troubleshoot common issues.
Detect and troubleshoot potential database related issues and constraints (CPU, memory, I/O and disk space, etc.).
Data loading into RDBMS from other non-RDBMS systems.
Knowledge of backups, restores, recovery models, database shrink operations, Database commands, Clustering, Database mirroring and Replication.
Index management, integrity checks, configuration, patching. How statistics work, how indexes are stored, how they can be created and managed effectively.
RDBMS patching, upgrading, applying CPUs and resolving patching conflicts etc.
Document skills for processes and procedures (creating knowledge transfer documents, run books and topology etc.)
Demonstrate the desired culture and philosophies of the organization.
Be on call for production support on a rotational basis.
Lead and participate in planning for system development and expansion.
Lead and participates in systems software and hardware projects.
Manages projects of limited scope or portions of large and complex projects.
Lead technical staff on a project basis.
Train staff for new applications and features.
Maintain availability, security, and data integrity of applications
