JOB DESCRIPTION:

Systems Architect

Stellenbosch

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

  • The Systems Architect is responsible for leading the technical design of the OSS/BSS system.
  • This includes collaborating with business analysts to turn functional designs into technical design documentation and guiding developers through the design so that they can execute the system design.
  • Further the systems architect is responsible for reviewing current architecture and suggesting improvements to achieve efficiencies.

Key Performance Areas would include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting system design activities and reviews of detailed application and software components across a variety of technology stacks
  • Ensuring that architectural solutions meet technical and functional requirements
  • Reviewing existing system architecture and recommending improvements and participating in engineering reviews to determine any ambiguities.
  • Investigate and scope change requests to determine the scale of work to be done and estimate the timeframe and input required
  • Determining system loads and volumes as input into infrastructure requirements

Documentation:

  • Technical systems specifications
  • Diagrams – Process flows, System Context Diagrams, ERDs
  • Production of Development instructions – translation of functional requirements and technical specs into development tickets for development and testing purposes
  • Ensure that proposed and existing systems architectures are aligned with companies goals and strategies.

The successful candidate must have the following experience/skills: -

  • SQL – Data management and analysis
  • JavaScript (basic to intermediate)
  • HTML/XML– understanding of style sheets, web development concepts and HTTP requests
  • APIs and JSON (Particularly RESTful APIs but also SOAP)
  • Understanding of the OSI Model
  • Basic Security/Infrastructure knowledge (System design to align to security and infrastructure requirements)
  • Experience with software development lifecycles
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Be able to work well in teams
  • Stakeholder Management
  • 2 Years’ Project Management experience will be advantageous
  • 3 to 5 Years’ proven experience working as a Systems Architect is required

Qualifications

• Relevant BCom or similar degree will be advantageous
