A Local Mining company has an opportunity for a Seasoned Health an Safety Superintendent at its operations in Eritrea

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Knowledge and Experience

Responsible to identify, develop and effectively implement management systems and tools to control and reduce the risk for the Project to ensure the wellâbeing of our employees, contractors, and the environment.
Aligning the HSE service and operational targets to business strategy and translating these into implementation plans.
Perform the role of Safety Manager for the project.
Develop and implement all HSE systems policies and procedures for the organization.
Develops, recommends, and communicates strategic plans, and monitors and evaluates the implementation of these plans to achieve international standard performance.
Conducts impact analyses through auditing of standards, workplace inspections, and statistics and advises THE CLIENT management on impact potential.
Advises THE CLIENT management on developments in the HSE field by researching applicable new systems and evaluating developments to ascertain the appropriateness of Project and Mine implementation.
Establish and maintains communication channels and mechanisms to enable the Projects team to function as an integrated whole concerning HSE.
HSE team capacity building and development of nationals to department self-sustainability levels.
Technical Review/Development - provide expertise to ensure all HSE issues are further developed and implemented at THE CLIENT within the context of full knowledge of and familiarity with relevant international best practices to ensure continual improvement in HSE performance.
THE CLIENT HSE Support - provide expertise and guidance to the wider management group to address HSE issues fully in the respective areas.
Support the Project in the development of SOPs, risk assessments, PTOs, covering safety monitoring, and other areas of responsibility as identified by the Project Manager;
In conjunction with personnel, develop targeted safety & occupational health monitoring plans and train personnel in the requirements of such monitoring;
Develop, review and update the Safety & Health Management Plan. Support Project staff in the implementation of the identified management practices and develop capacity for its ongoing implementation;
Review and maintain the Project Baseline Risk Assessment
Support HSE staff in the development of improved HSE practices, identify best practices and demonstrate to staff the various methods.
Screen projects and project sites before work commences, identifying safety-related risks.
Inspect active project sites to evaluate ongoing work conditions to guarantee compliance with the HSE program.
Work with project management teams and field workers to implement and devise solutions to safety-related issues on site.
Work with senior Project Management to create plans for emergency procedures.
Maintain safety-related paperwork, including accident/incident register, risk assessments, statistics, and safety training certifications.
Induct company employees on safe work practices and emergency procedures.
Recommend remedial actions where subcontractors and employees fail to comply with minimum safety standards

Qualifications:

Mining Safety Diploma or Degree(Advantageous)
10+ years of relevant international experience, at the senior management level in Safety, Occupational Health, Emergency Response, and Environmental Management.
Experience in developing, establishing, monitoring, and maintaining HSE programs in the mining industry
Experience in mentoring, training, and capacity building of Safety & Occupational Health and Environmental personnel.
Experience in an Underground environment and projects will be well regarded.
