School Accountant

SUMMARY:
Our client, a leader in the private education sector has an opportunity available for an Accountant to join their school based in Jhb West.
The school Accountant is responsible for overseeing the schools full finance function and assisting with budgetary control and expense management while providing financial support to staff and parents and act as a liaison between the school and Group Shared Services.

POSITION INFO:
Qualification required:

• BCom/ BCompt or a 3-year Financial Diploma.
• SAIPA or SAICA articles complete would be advantageous

• Expert bookkeeping / accounting knowledge is required.
• Ability to multitask and keep up with a fast paced environment
• Strong administrative and reporting skills
• Strong excel skills
• Ability to work under tight deadlines/deadline driven;
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role
• Must be fully computer literate – Pastel 9 would be advantageous
• Excellent communication with parents and pupils
• Ability to deal empathetically with people at all levels

• Report the School Principal and the Senior Financial Administrator at head office.

• Participate in campus management meetings and brand campus meetings.

• Drive and manage the annual opex and capex budget process at the school.

• Monitor school expenses against budgets.
• Customer and third-party billing accuracy.
• Overseeing procurement and accounts payable.
• Ensuring that discounts and bursaries are accurate and that processes are adhered to.
• Overseeing debt management and collections.
• Timely financial reporting.
• Accurate and complete income and expenses.
• Accurate and timely submission of CAPEX applications and prepare CAPEX requisitions
• Preparing monthly reconciliations.
• Review and submit accurate billing information to head office
• Assist with procurement and payments of invoivces
• Calculate discounts and allocate bursaries
• Fee collections and manage overdue accounts and collection process
• Invoicing and collection from parents for school events, grade camps and sports tours.
• Financial reporting and month-end closing.
