Senior Advisor: Economic and Regional Development

Our client has an opportunity available for a Senior Advisor in Economic and Regional Development based in Pretoria.

Requirements:

• Postgraduate qualification at Hons level in Economic Development, Development Management, Economics or Town and regional planning or a related field.
• Valid driver’s license.
• 7+ years’ experience of which 3+ years have been at an equivalent level within a large organization.
• Have a sound understanding of the Local Government Sector.
• Track record in effectively managing complex and sensitive stakeholder engagements at all levels.
• Exposure in Regional or Local Economic Planning, Investment Promotion or Project Development.

Responsibilities:

• Provide ongoing analysis of the key challenges, needs and trends in Local Economic and Regional Development to ensure that strategies are appropriately implemented.
• Be a key repository of knowledge and information on the local government.
• Conduct analysis on municipalities and provide guidance in respect of possible improvements.
• Promote the role of local government in LED and Regional Development in line with District Development Model and other frameworks.
• Develop guidelines to assist municipalities in complying with applicable legislations and policies.
• Support municipalities in tourist development.
• Facilitate training programmes in the areas of professional discipline.
• Maintain records per the company’s policy and ensure that all project records are uploaded into the company’s knowledge management system.
• Implement appropriate project management methodologies and manage full project cycle on assigned projects.
• Build and maintain relevant stakeholder relationships.
• Identify potential funders during the programme conceptualization phase with support of the sponsorship team.
• Assist with the preparation of annual budgets and monitoring of the monthly expenditure.
• Uphold sound corporate governance principles in the daily operation of the professional discipline.
• Develop and maintain programme risk register and ensure that mitigation steps are applied.
• Work as a multidisciplinary and integrated team to find possible solutions to complex challenges in municipalities.
