Job Purpose\/ Job Summary To elicit, analyse, specify and validate business and system requirements for complex, cross-functional or strategically significant JSE initiatives, and to support solution design, testing and adoption in accordance with the standards of the Analysis and Design Centre of Enablement. The Senior Analyst is deployed from the Centre of Enablement to the company domains, programmes and squads on assignment, and is accountable for the quality, completeness and traceability of analysis outputs across the assignment, including the recovery of requirements from existing systems using AI-enabled tooling, in alignment with the company strategic priorities. Location: Johannesburg Work type: 1-year(12 months) contract Minimum requirements for the job Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Engineering or a related discipline. An Honours degree or postgraduate qualification is advantageous. Business Analysis certification from a recognised institution, such as IIBA CBAP or an equivalent qualification. Certification in Agile analysis practices, such as IIBA-AAC, PSPO or SAFe, is advantageous. Training or certification in the application of AI tooling to analysis and software engineering is advantageous. Minimum Experience A minimum of 10 years’ experience as a Business Analyst, Systems Analyst or in an equivalent analysis role, of which at least 3 years have been spent on complex, multi-team or cross-domain initiatives. Experience delivering analysis across more than one business or technology domain, or in a shared services or consulting environment. Experience in the analysis of existing systems for modernisation, migration or replacement, including the recovery of requirements from systems with limited or outdated documentation. Demonstrated experience in the practical use of AI-assisted tooling in analysis work. Experience in financial services, capital markets or a regulated environment is strongly preferred. Knowledge and Skills Required Advanced requirements elicitation, analysis, specification and validation techniques, including workshops, interviews, observation and document and system analysis. Business process analysis and modelling, including BPMN, and system modelling techniques, including UML, data modelling and interface specification. Agile analysis practices, including user story writing, acceptance criteria, backlog refinement and definition of ready and done. Software development lifecycle knowledge, including the role of analysis in design, build, test, release and operational support. AI-assisted analysis tooling, including large language model and agentic tools for requirements drafting, summarisation, traceability, test scenario generation and the analysis of source code, configuration and integration definitions. Reverse engineering techniques for the recovery of business rules, process logic and data requirements from legacy systems, including the use of AI tooling to analyse code, message schemas, integration maps and operational data. Data analysis and the ability to interpret data in support of requirements, impact assessment and decision-making. Analysis and collaboration tooling such as Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps and modelling tools. Working knowledge of the JSE business, its markets, its systems landscape and its regulatory environment, or the ability to acquire it rapidly. Understanding of information security, POPIA, intellectual property and audit requirements as they apply to requirements, solution design and the use of AI tooling. Facilitation, negotiation and stakeholder management across business and technology audiences. Ability to adapt to new domains, teams and ways of working at short notice. Position Responsibilities Results Delivery Deliver the analysis scope agreed for each assignment against the assignment plan and timelines, and take corrective action where obstacles to delivery are identified. Contribute to the planning of the assigned domain, programme or squad, including estimation of analysis effort and identification of dependencies. Apply cost-effectiveness principles in analysis and solution recommendations in support of divisional financial targets, including the appropriate use of AI tooling to reduce analysis effort and cycle time. Guide business and technology stakeholders on solution options and scope trade-offs to ensure fit with JSE requirements and future strategic objectives. Manage own utilisation across assignments and report utilisation and capacity to the Manager: Analysis and Design. Stakeholder Relationship Management Establish productive working relationships with business owners, product owners, engineering teams, architects, testers and other stakeholders within the assigned domain. Observe and participate in the day-to-day operations of the assigned domain in order to understand the business context, needs and requirements of stakeholders. Provide insight on analysis methods, tooling and practices to stakeholders in order to build a consistent understanding of the Centre of Enablement’s services and the appropriate role of AI-assisted analysis. Conduct stakeholder feedback sessions at agreed milestones to communicate progress, manage expectations and measure the effectiveness of process and solution improvements. Build relationships with other Group Technology functions, including Enterprise Architecture, Software Quality Assurance and Data Platforms, in support of integrated delivery. Participate in design authority and programme governance forums as required. Communicate openly and accurately with stakeholders on the status, risks and issues of assigned work. Analysis and Design Delivery Prepare an analysis plan for each assignment detailing the approach, techniques, tooling, activities, outputs and review points, in accordance with Centre of Enablement standards. Conduct stakeholder analysis at the start of each assignment to identify the people, systems and sources required for information gathering. Elicit requirements through interviews, workshops, surveys, observation and the analysis of existing documentation, systems and data. Conduct feasibility, cost and benefit analysis and prepare business cases or option assessments to support decision-making. Produce business requirements specifications, functional and non-functional requirements, process models, user stories and acceptance criteria as appropriate to the delivery approach, and maintain traceability from business need through to test. Present and validate requirements and proposed solutions with stakeholders and obtain the required approvals. Contribute to solution design by working with architects and engineers, and review technical design specifications to confirm that all requirements are addressed. Review test cases and test coverage against requirements, and participate in defect triage and root cause analysis for functional defects. Support user acceptance testing, training and change management activities to ensure the effective adoption of delivered solutions. Identify obstacles and improvement opportunities in business and system processes, and recommend optimisation where appropriate. AI-Enabled Analysis and Requirements Reverse Engineering Apply AI tooling to recover requirements, business rules, process logic, data structures and interface behaviour from existing systems, including source code, configuration, integration definitions, message schemas and operational records, where documentation is absent, incomplete or outdated. Validate AI-generated findings with subject matter experts, system owners and engineers, and distinguish confirmed requirements from inferred behaviour in all outputs. Use AI tooling to accelerate the drafting, summarisation, structuring and traceability of requirements, and to generate candidate test scenarios and acceptance criteria for review. Assess the accuracy, completeness and limitations of AI-generated outputs, and apply the level of human verification appropriate to the risk and regulatory significance of the initiative. Apply JSE policies and Centre of Enablement guidance on the use of AI tooling, including the protection of confidential information, personal information and intellectual property, and the exclusion of production data where not permitted. Contribute to the evaluation, selection and configuration of AI-assisted analysis tooling for the Centre of Enablement, and document usage patterns, prompts and workflows that can be reused by other Analysts. Support modernisation and migration programmes by producing validated baseline requirements for existing systems that can be used to define target state scope and to measure completeness of the replacement solution. Centre of Enablement Practice and Standards Apply the standards, templates, methods and quality criteria of the Analysis and Design Centre of Enablement in all assignment outputs, and contribute to their development and revision as practice and tooling evolve. Participate in peer reviews of analysis outputs produced by other Analysts, and submit own outputs for review in accordance with Centre of Enablement quality processes. Develop and maintain reusable artefacts, reference requirements, domain knowledge bases and training material for the Centre of Enablement. Capture domain knowledge, lessons learned and reusable requirements at the close of each assignment and hand over to the Centre of Enablement and the receiving team. Contribute to the Analysis and Design community of practice and share techniques, research results and case studies with other Analysts. Support the onboarding and mentoring of less experienced Analysts as requested by the Manager: Analysis and Design. Self-Management Improve personal capability and professional growth relating to the field of expertise, in line with JSE objectives, by agreeing development needs and actions with the Manager: Analysis and Design. Keep abreast of changes in legislation, standards, analysis practice and AI tooling relevant to the JSE and to the analysis profession through research and professional networks. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the domains to which the Senior Analyst has been or may be assigned. Live the JSE values, display professional conduct and adhere to required technical and ethical standards, including in the use of AI tooling. Transformation and Innovation Analyse, research, develop and implement improvements to analysis practices, tools and templates, with particular emphasis on the responsible integration of AI capabilities into the analysis lifecycle. Identify and propose value-adding solutions and process improvements that contribute to divisional and JSE results. Pilot new analysis techniques and tooling on assignment, measure their effect on quality and cycle time, and provide feedback to the Manager: Analysis and Design.
