Our client, a leading organisation within the financial services sector, is looking for an experienced Senior BPM Software Developer (Workflow) to join their technology team. This is a 12-month contract opportunity based in Sandton.
We are looking for a strong software developer with solid hands-on experience in Java, Spring Boot and microservices, combined with practical experience in IBM BPM/BAW or Camunda. The ideal candidate will have experience designing, modelling, developing and deploying complex business workflows, with the ability to integrate workflow solutions with APIs, custom applications and event-streaming platforms.
The successful candidate will work across the full development lifecycle, from solution decomposition and workflow modelling through to development, testing, deployment and production support. Strong experience with BPMN, workflow orchestration, Kafka/Confluent and CI/CD will be important, together with the ability to mentor other developers and contribute to solution design.
POSITION INFO:
What you will be doing: Develop high-quality software solutions based on detailed technical designs. Develop critical and complex technical components within the workflow and software development environment. Design robust, fault-tolerant and scalable system components for large and complex systems. Ensure solutions are supportable, maintainable, reusable and observable. Design, model and implement business workflows using IBM BPM\/BAW or Camunda . Model workflows using BPMN 2.0 and, where applicable, DMN. Develop and maintain Java-based services using Java 11+ and Spring Boot . Develop and maintain REST APIs and microservices supporting workflow solutions. Integrate workflow solutions with custom user interfaces and other enterprise systems. Develop and implement workflow automations and orchestration solutions. Work with external task workers and workflow components where applicable. Configure, deploy, monitor and support workflow solutions across environments. Publish and consume events using Kafka\/Confluent . Develop unit and system test cases and conduct appropriate testing. Support functional and performance testing activities. Troubleshoot complex software and workflow issues and provide guidance to other team members. Create deployment artefacts and maintain them within source control. Manage deployment packages and support the execution of deployments. Work with Biz\/Dev\/Ops teams to optimise development and deployment processes. Maintain and update relevant technical and asset knowledge repositories. Collaborate with Product Owners, Designers and Engineering Leads to refine solutions. Contribute to decomposing system solutions into appropriate components for development. Analyse business processes and identify opportunities for workflow automation. Investigate alternative technologies and approaches that improve software and workflow solutions. Contribute to AI-enabled workflow optimisation and data-driven decision automation initiatives. Provide technical guidance to Operations and Support teams. Monitor solution performance and recommend improvements to performance, functionality and reliability. Conduct technical problem-solving and design solutions that prevent recurring issues. Review and quality assure deliverables produced by other developers. Mentor multiple software developers and provide guidance on effective development practices. Produce technical documentation in accordance with organisational standards. Stay abreast of developments in workflow technology, software engineering and automation. What we are looking for: Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering or a related field. 5+ years' software development experience with Java\/Spring Boot, REST APIs and microservices. 5+ years' practical experience in business process analysis and workflow\/BPM technologies. Strong hands-on experience with IBM BPM\/BAW or Camunda 7\/8 . Practical experience with workflow modelling, automation, orchestration, deployment and monitoring. Experience modelling and deploying workflows using Camunda Modeler and\/or IBM BPM\/BAW . Strong knowledge of BPMN 2.0 and workflow modelling principles. Experience integrating workflows with custom UIs and enterprise applications. Experience with Java 11+ and Spring Boot . Strong knowledge of REST APIs and JSON . Practical experience with Kafka or Confluent and event-driven integration. Experience with Git and CI\/CD , preferably Azure DevOps pipelines. Ability to design robust, scalable, maintainable and fault-tolerant solutions. Experience with functional and performance testing. Experience analysing business processes to identify automation opportunities. Understanding of AI-enabled workflow optimisation and data-driven decision automation. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Ability to work collaboratively with Product Owners, Designers, Engineering Leads and other technical teams. Strong technical documentation skills. Ability to mentor and provide technical guidance to other software developers. Essential Certifications: Camunda Certified Modeler \/ Developer Kafka\/Confluent Practitioner certification Azure AZ-900, AZ-104 or AZ-204 Beneficial: Banking or financial services experience. Experience with both IBM BPM\/BAW and Camunda . Experience with Camunda 7 and Camunda 8 . Experience with DMN and decision automation. Experience with AI-enabled workflow optimisation.
