We are seeking an experienced Senior Backend Node.js Developer for a 6-month contract opportunity in Stellenbosch within a prominent banking environment. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Node.js, TypeScript/JavaScript, REST APIs, microservices and scalable backend development, with the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Senior Backend Node.js Developer - 6 Month Contract Stellenbosch | Banking \/ Financial Services An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Senior Backend Node.js Developer to join a prominent organisation within the banking and financial services sector on a 6-month contract . We are looking for a strong backend engineer who is confident working in complex, high-volume environments and has solid experience building scalable, secure and reliable backend services and APIs. Key Responsibilities Design, develop and maintain scalable backend applications and services using Node.js Build and integrate RESTful APIs and microservices Develop clean, maintainable and high-quality production code Work with databases and data-driven backend solutions Integrate backend services with internal and third-party systems Troubleshoot complex technical and production issues Improve application performance, reliability and scalability Write and maintain automated unit and integration tests Participate in code reviews and contribute to technical standards and best practices Collaborate closely with developers, architects, QA, product and business teams Support CI\/CD and modern software delivery practices Provide technical guidance and mentorship where required Requirements Strong commercial experience as a Backend Developer \/ Software Engineer Advanced experience with Node.js Strong JavaScript and\/or TypeScript development experience Solid experience developing REST APIs Experience working with microservices or distributed systems Good understanding of relational and\/or NoSQL databases Experience with automated testing and software engineering best practices Understanding of Git, CI\/CD and modern DevOps environments Experience with Docker, Kubernetes or cloud platforms will be advantageous Strong understanding of application security and secure API development Ability to work independently and solve complex technical problems Experience within banking, fintech, financial services or another high-volume transactional environment would be highly advantageous The Ideal Candidate You are a senior-level developer who enjoys solving complex backend problems and building systems that are stable, scalable and secure.
