POSITION INFO:

Our client, a leading digital transformation solutions company is seeking to URGENTLY appoint dynamic and highly competent Senior Big Data Administrative Support Engineer to be based in Gauteng or Cape Town (R615K pa, CTC).   

 MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

• 1st & 2nd Line Platform Support (Cloudera CDH, RStudio, Nexus, Jenkins, Hortonworks HDF, Gitlab and various open-source products) and Platform stability assurance
• Assess, adjust and align to the Customer specified Big Data Architecture
• Big Data Platform Support (Cloudera CDH, RStudio, Nexus, Jenkins, Hortonworks HDF, Gitlab, Confluent and various open-source products)

MINIMUM KEY COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:

• BSC Degree, Comp Sciences preferred.
• Experience in Data Base Development and Data Structures.
• Experience with Big Data and associated Platforms
• Experience with Industry Standard Operating Systems
• Exceptional self-managed skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Great attention to detail and time management.
• Extensive industry knowledge with an eye towards the future.
• Good Database Support and Development experience.
• Good Linux Support and Development experience.
• Good Python Support and Development experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS: 

• Resolve customer queries with agreed SLA/OLA. 
• Maintain and update all system elements up to Application Level. 
• Manage and provide accurate feedback on queries. 
• Provide assistance and support to Data Engineers and Scientists
• Enforce Company standards and controls associated with the Big Data environment.
• Obtain the necessary business approvals in accordance with policies and change controls.
• Prepare the platform for both the Development and Production environments.
• Assume responsibility for the following:
• L1 & L2 Platform Support (Cloudera CDH, RStudio, Nexus, Jenkins, Hortonworks HDF, Gitlab, Confluent and various open-source products)
• Manage L3 support with product vendors.
• Support to Data Engineering for Data Ingestion and productionisation of workflows.
• Support to Data Scientist for stable processing environment
• Support OS and hardware Teams
• Keep Big Data environment up to date i.t.o. System & Security patches/updates
• Responsible for the monitoring and maintenance and the applications/jobs running on the platform.
• Responsible for daily, weekly and monthly performance monitoring indicators and reporting
• Updating and maintaining Platform according to Customer standards and policies
• Liaising with Internal and External Stakeholders
• Responsible for the timeous and effective resolution of L1 and L2 incidents.
• Attend customer meetings
• Assist the Data Engineers for Ingestion testing and processing.
