JOB SUMMARY:
My client, a leading manufacturer of quality low voltage electrical products, is looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to be part of their dynamic team. The candidate would be responsible for the management of the company’s design and industrial engineering functions that will include amongst others the creation and implementation of best practice design and industrial vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve operational performance. Must come from a high-volume manufacturing environment with Min of 5 years of design experience.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Minimum requirements:

Engineering degree (Mechanical or Industrial)
Min of 5 years’ experience in engineering design (Preferably in the electrical field).
Solid track record in the management of staff.
Experience in an electrical manufacturing environment.
Experience with circuit protection and wiring accessory product ranges.
Experience in product industrialisation.
Knowledge of plastic injection moulding, press work, and modern assembly techniques.
Complex project management.

Additional requirements:

Pr Eng. Registration would be of benefit.
Experience in the introduction of automated manufacturing.
Knowledge of SANS and BS standards applicable to accessories (advantages).
Experience in quoting new tools and equipment.
Health and Safety management.

Duties and responsibilities:

Strategy and development

Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice design and industrial vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures to aid and improve operational performance.
Introduction of new and developing technologies to improve business performance.
Identify business improvement opportunities within the organisation.
Contribute to new business initiatives and projects and review and communicate the impact on design activities.
Maintain and understand the standard rating to international and local standards and specifications. Keeping abreast of forthcoming changes and assessing the impact on the business.

General and Task Management

Provide specialist technical advice and support to the business.
Support production and engineering with tooling/technical problems.
Supervise/Manage the running and planning activities of the department facilities, ensuring the department has a safe environment in line with health, safety, and environmental requirements.
Ability and willingness to participate in industry standard committees.
Supports Production and Engineering to manage and guarantee on-time availability of tools to ensure continuous production and increase of OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness).
Perform other duties or special projects as assigned.
Maximise the use of all resources, including IT and database maintenance for tracking all tools, implementing a planned schedule of maintenance and repair activity to ensure a computerised log is kept on faults and service history of tools.
Oversee all work through the support departments for example toolroom and test laboratory and manage the workflow through the supplier.
Develop, implement, and manage key performance indicators (KPIs).

Overall Responsibilities

Responsible for all aspects of design and industrial engineering to ensure the business objectives are met.
To maximise productivity and maintain the highest levels of integrity for all new product introductions.
Manage the sourcing of materials and tooling for new products and value-engineered projects.
Working in conjunction with purchasing and toolroom.
Manage the sourcing of equipment and automation to industrialise new products and value-engineered projects.
Implement and maintain systems and procedures to ensure the integrity of all development and change processes under their control.
To achieve a high standard of quality, compliance, cost-efficient, and speed to market.
Management of design and industrial engineering team.
Manage expense and project budgets.
Manage the projects to completion achieving agreed cost in terms of piece price and implementation expenditure.
Manage the team on technical best practices and establish standard policies and procedures whilst also mentoring and leading the team.
Maintaining a motivating competent and professional team.
Lead and coordinate resources within the department to ensure all projects are produced efficiently, on time, and in line with quality standards ensuring that Health, Safety, and Environmental requirements are adhered to.
