Senior DevOps Engineer (Backend Development Skills Required)

POSITION INFO:
Key Responsibilities Take ownership of production infrastructure across multiple AWS regions and environments. Maintain and improve highly available, scalable cloud platforms. Design, manage, and optimise infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code. Build, maintain, and improve CI\/CD pipelines and deployment processes. Troubleshoot complex production issues across infrastructure, applications, databases, and networking. Participate in a 24\/7 on-call rotation as an escalation point for production incidents. Lead root cause analysis, incident resolution, and post-mortem improvements. Work closely with development teams to support and improve backend services. Develop and maintain automation, tooling, and backend code. Improve platform reliability, performance, security, and cost efficiency. Required Technical Experience: Advanced AWS Experience Our client requires strong hands-on AWS production experience, including: EC2, Auto Scaling, and Spot Instances RDS \/ Aurora MySQL ElastiCache (Redis \/ Memcached) VPC design, networking, routing, and subnets IAM roles and policies S3 and CloudFront ALB \/ NLB Route 53 Security Groups SNS, EventBridge, Lambda, and API Gateway Secrets Manager, KMS, WAF, and CloudWatch Experience managing multi-region AWS production environments is essential. Infrastructure as Code Strong experience with: Terraform Managing multiple environments, including Development, Test, and Production Remote state management using S3 with locking Modular infrastructure design Code reviews and infrastructure improvements Ansible Playbooks and roles Dynamic cloud inventories Configuration management Secure secrets management CI\/CD and Deployment Experience with: Jenkins pipeline creation and maintenance Deployment automation Spinnaker (preferred), ArgoCD, or Harness Blue\/Green and Red\/Black deployments Rollbacks and release management Immutable infrastructure and AMI-based workflows Database Administration Strong production MySQL experience is required, including: AWS RDS \/ Aurora administration Database upgrades and migrations Backup and restore procedures Performance tuning Production troubleshooting Experience with major upgrades, such as MySQL 5.7 to 8.0, is highly advantageous. Messaging, Networking and Load Balancing Experience with: RabbitMQ Queue management and consumer scaling HAProxy Nginx \/ OpenResty Reverse proxying and load balancing Consul or similar service discovery tools Monitoring and Incident Response Our client is looking for someone experienced with: Prometheus and Grafana Exporters and custom monitoring Loki or ELK logging platforms Alertmanager PagerDuty or similar alerting systems Production incident response Root cause analysis and post-mortems You should be comfortable acting as a technical escalation point during critical incidents. Backend Development Skills Required: This role requires more than infrastructure expertise. Our client needs an engineer who is comfortable working with backend code and internal services. The successful candidate should be able to read, debug, modify, and deploy backend applications. Required experience: Python Building and debugging Python services Automation and scripting Workers and background processes AWS Lambda integrations Flask and Zappa boto3, requests\/httpx, pika, Redis, and MySQL connectors PHP Supporting deployments Debugging backend issues Experience with PHP\/Symfony applications Node.js \/ TypeScript Backend service development and troubleshooting APIs, WebSocket services, and processing systems Nice to have: Java experience for Spinnaker troubleshooting and maintenance.
