SUMMARY:

The University of Fort Hare is seeking applications from appropriately qualified and experienced candidates for the post Senior Lecturer in the Department of GIS & Remote Sensing, Faculty of Science and Agriculture.

POSITION INFO:

Minimum Requirements

• A PhD in GIS / Remote Sensing or a related field.
• Minimum teaching experience in GIS / Remote Sensing at tertiary level of 5 years.
• Ability to work with multiple GIS/RS software packages, such as ArcGIS, ERDAS Imagine, ENVI, IDRISI, ILWIS and statistical packages such as SPSS & MS Excel.
• Research experience supported by a good publications record and evidence of attracting research funding.
• A proven record of successful research supervision at Honours and Master levels.
• Proven ability to mentor junior staff.
• A proven track record of initiating, leading and conducting relevant research.
• Proven experience in curriculum development and review.

Added Advantages

• Registration with a recognized South African Professional Organisation, such as the South African Geomatics Council (SAGC) or the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP).
• NRF rating.
• A valid drivers’ licence.
• Experience with administration.

Duties 

• Teach both GIS and Remote Sensing courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Supervise postgraduate students’ research and training in the Department and contribute to capacity building.
• Attract funding to conduct own research as well as to fund postgraduate students.
• Give direction to the Department’s academic aspects such as course development, course assessment and curriculum review.
• Participate in normal administrative duties necessary for the smooth running of the Department with the possibility of assuming the role of HoD.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the Department.
