Senior Lecturer: Soil Science Ref No 6958

SUMMARY:

The University of Fort Hare is seeking applications from appropriately qualified and experienced candidates for the post Senior Lecturer in the Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Science and Agriculture.

POSITION INFO:

Minimum Requirements: 

• A PhD degree in Soil Science with specialisation in Soil Chemistry.
• Ability to teach Soil Fertility, Soil Chemistry, Soil Biology and other Soil Science courses.
• At least five years full-time teaching experience at tertiary level. 
• Sound knowledge of soil laboratory analytical procedures.
• Experience in maintenance and operation of laboratory equipment such as ICP, LECO Auto-analyser, CFA etc.
• Research experience supported by a good publication record and evidence of attracting research funding.

Duties:

• Teach undergraduate courses in Soil Chemistry, Soil Fertility, Soil Biology, Special Topics in Soil Health, Chemical Analysis of Soils, Plants and Waters and Introduction to Soil Science and any other courses assigned.
• Attract research funding.
• Supervise BSc Honours, MSc and PhD students.
• Participate in long-term conservation agriculture and vermiculture research projects and any other projects that address food security and land degradation problems in the Eastern Cape.
• Participate in community engagement projects.
• Manage and maintain laboratory equipment and supervise technical staff.
• Participate in the administration of the Department of Agronomy.
• Any other responsibilities assigned by the Head of Department.
