Senior Lecturer: Zoology Ref. No 900 Alice Campus

SUMMARY:
The University of Fort Hare is seeking applications from appropriately qualified and experienced candidates for Senior Lecturer in Zoology Ref No. 900 Alice Campus who is committed to excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement.

POSITION INFO:

Duties: 

• Teach Biology and Zoology modules, act as course co-ordinator where required and lead fieldtrips at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Initiate and supervise postgraduate students’ research and training in the Department and contribute to capacity building.
• Seek research funding and conduct own research.
• Assist with Departmental academic aspects such as course and curriculum development and assessment.
• Participate in normal administrative duties necessary for the smooth running of the Department with the possibility of assuming the role of HoD.

• Doctoral Degree in Zoology (or a related field) with specialisation in terrestrial or aquatic biology/ecology.
• A minimum of five years’ experience in teaching at university level.
• A proven track record in terms of the ability to initiate, lead and conduct relevant research including participation in collaborative research programmes as well as the ability to supervise junior scientists.
• Publication in rated journals and evidence of fund raising for research is essential. 
• Areas of zoological specialization include (but are not restricted to) phylogenetics, biogeography and/or population genetics; biodiversity and conservation biology; ecological modelling; ecophysiology and behavioural ecology.
• A valid driving licence would be an advantage.
• A valid NRF-rating would be an advantage.
