POSITION INFO:
The Role:

The Systems Administrator is proactively responsible for managing the stability of the IT infrastructure of Altron People Solutions (APS) by monitoring system performance and configuring new software and hardware. This role requires that the computer systems and networks of APS remain secure and reliable on an ongoing basis. They provide hardware and software support to users as well as server operating software support (Windows and Linux).

The role requires balanced technical knowledge with network and data infrastructure management as well as excellent troubleshooting skills and hands-on experience with various operating systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Systems and network administration
• Database administration
• Security and risk mitigation
• System performance improvement
• Incident management
• Documentation and reporting

Data Base Management Responsibilities 

• Data management and information technology needs
• Installation management, backup and security around MYSQL/MariaDB-based databases as well as assistance with the Microsoft SQL server environments
• Maintaining of databases and related systems to a good level

Systems and Network  Administration Responsibilities 

• Manage the design and interconnection of systems and how to leverage the systems to achieve business goals and requirements.
• Integration of existing systems with new systems and processes.
• Following of change management processes and adherence thereto
• Proactively managing stability of the infrastructure of the business
• Responsible to set up the network and provide users and company with constant access to servers and data storage sites
• Establish and configure networks for APS
• Designing systems: leveraging the most efficient use of hardware and software in achieving business goals and offering different solutions and what is most cost effective
• Design and oversee server-side elements of the network infrastructure (e.g. installing network-wide malware protection software, firewalls, and configuring databases and access on the back-endsystems, etc.)
• Research of new technologies to provide the business with process and cost efficiencies.
• Architecture of Technology Solutions for the business inline with both internal and external customers.
• Responsible for the Tier 3 issues and escalations that Tier 1 and 2 Support are unable to resolve.

Security and risk mitigation

• Ensure that data remains intact, secure, and accessible in case of system crashes by conducting regular data backups ensuring the least amount of impact or interruption to the users
• Responsible for network and system security to ensure risks are minimised and to protect the business overall.
• Research of security technologies and trends to ensure the business is not exposed to threats.
• Ensure systems comply with POPIA and any other privacy laws and legislation
• Promote privacy by design principles

Improve system performance

• Provide switch server and hardware and software support
• Monitoring of infrastructure to ensure that the business maintains an adequate level of resources. (Telephony, Wan or Storage capacity)
• Research new technologies to enhance the operations of business Incident management
• Investigate, troubleshoot and identify that an incident occurred
• Make recommendations to impede further errors.
• Perform Root cause analysis of severe issues as well as development of a mitigation strategy.

Documenting and reporting

• Development and management of technical processes and procedures.
• Documenting what is done and maintaining processes and procedures, software changes, etc.
• Customer reporting â??keeping track of key matrix of the business, monitoring of systems, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS:

Educational Qualifications

• Bachelorâ??s Degree or equivalent within Information Technology
• Linux qualification/Experience essential
• Database training and qualification essential
• Asterisk (Dcap or equivalent) certification essential
• Windows certifications essential
• Security certification beneficial
• Programming and scripting experience beneficial

Years of Experience

• Minimum of 8 yearsâ?? experience as a senior in an IT environment role essential
• At least 4 years Linux experience essential
• Minimum 2 years'' experience in cloud infrastructure essential
• Minimum of 2 yearsâ?? experience in Asterisk essential
• Minimum of 2 yearsâ?? experience in Vicidial advantageous
