Senior Manager: External Legal Advisory Services

SUMMARY:
Our client in the Public Service sector has an opportunity available for a Senior Manager: External Legal Advisory Services to be based in the Pretoria area. This will be a contract position.

POSITION INFO:
Requirements:

• Bachelor of Law (LLB) Degree (essential/minimum);
• Postgraduate degree (recommended/desirable);
• Admission as an Attorney will be advantageous;
• At least 4-6 years of operational experience in legal services, of which at least 2-3 years are specifically in the local government sector;
• A valid Code 08 drivers’ license and own vehicle;
• At least 5 years’ experience operating at a senior management level within a medium to large sized organisation;
• Proven track-record in successful lobbying and advocacy of critical issues.
• Previous management experience in a multidisciplinary unit is preferable.
• Proven track-record in drafting legal opinions and provision of legal advices
• Knowledge of legislation governing public entities
• Understand corporate governance and legal compliance regulations
• Thorough understanding of Municipal Law
• Excellent knowledge of South African legislation
• Knowledge of legislation governing the public and local government in particular and interpretation of it
• Understanding of cyber law / information technology related legislation
• Understand corporate governance and legal compliance regulations
• Computer literacy (MS Office: Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook, MS Project Management)

• Provide legal opinions and oversee, co-ordinate and facilitate the sourcing of expert legal opinions and the outsourcing of legal support services
• Draft and Manage Legal Documents
• Management and development of Staff
• Draft reports or briefs on legal or legal policy
• Manage and coordinate litigation from beginning to end
• Assist member municipalities with vetting of legal documents as and when required
