Senior Mechanical Engineer

Overview

Our client, a globally recognized mining consultancy, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their Underground Mining team. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership across a range of mining projects, delivering engineering solutions from concept studies through to feasibility, implementation, and operational support.
This role offers the opportunity to work on large-scale mining projects, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and build strong relationships with leading mining clients across Africa and globally.

POSITION INFO:
Key Responsibilities Lead mechanical engineering activities across underground mining projects. Manage engineering studies from conceptual design through to feasibility stages. Deliver projects within approved scope, budget, schedule, and quality requirements. Prepare and review technical reports, specifications, and engineering documentation. Act as Project Manager and\/or Mechanical Engineering Lead where required. Conduct engineering reviews and provide technical oversight to project teams. Support proposal preparation, project planning, and business development initiatives. Develop and maintain strong client relationships. Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers and technical staff. Ensure compliance with industry regulations, engineering standards, and HSE requirements. Participate in site visits, audits, assessments, and commissioning activities. Minimum Requirements Qualifications BEng or BSc Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Professional registration with ECSA (Pr Eng) will be highly advantageous. Experience 9-15 years' experience in Mechanical Engineering within the mining industry. Proven experience in engineering studies from Conceptual through to Feasibility level. Experience working on both Greenfields and Brownfields mining projects. Strong project management experience within a consulting or mining environment. Demonstrated experience in technical report writing and engineering documentation. Technical Expertise Candidates should possess strong knowledge and experience within: Underground mining systems and infrastructure. Shaft and decline access systems. Bulk materials handling systems. Underground and surface mining equipment selection. Fleet maintenance and reliability engineering. Personnel transport systems. Hydrocarbon handling and transport systems. Mine service infrastructure. Equipment specifications and procurement. Vendor technical evaluations. Cost estimation and budgeting. Commissioning and quality assurance. Relevant mining, mechanical engineering, and safety standards. Competencies Strong leadership and project management capability. Excellent stakeholder and client engagement skills. Commercial awareness and business development aptitude. Strong analytical and problem-solving ability. Ability to manage multiple priorities and complex projects simultaneously. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. High attention to detail and commitment to quality. Self-motivated, proactive, and results-driven. Strong team player with mentoring capabilities.
