POSITION INFO:
Our client, a leading organisation in the mining sector, is seeking an experienced Senior Piping Engineer to join their project delivery team. The Piping Engineer is responsible for regulatory code compliance, quality assurance of piping deliverables, and resolving technical issues. The role also involves supervising, coordinating, and providing guidance to piping practitioners across the project lifecycle. Key Responsibilities Ensure piping engineering work complies with health and safety standards, pressure piping regulations, and client engineering standards Prepare and approve design calculations Prepare engineering deliverable lists and time-based functions to support budget planning and control Manage and review piping work packages to ensure budgets and schedules are met, taking corrective action when necessary Prepare, review, and approve piping technical deliverables Assist in developing project-specific procedures Manage piping system requirements to achieve project results and monitor effectiveness Facilitate piping discipline engineering meetings Ensure coordination between piping and other disciplines as the design evolves Ensure quality audits are carried out in accordance with project procedures and maintain technical documentation Participate in HAZOP reviews Provide input to proposals and man-hour estimates Train and mentor junior and intermediate engineers and designers on standards and quality requirements Resolve piping issues throughout the project lifecycle, including planning, design, procurement, fabrication, construction, and commissioning Promote ethical and professional practices in piping engineering work Adhere to and promote the corporate safety culture Requirements Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification Minimum 10 years of piping engineering experience, with at least 3 years of project engineering experience (or equivalent relevant experience) Strong technical skills Ability to motivate individuals to attain quality, cost, and schedule objectives Strong deliverable focus with the ability to plan and delegate work High degree of understanding of interdisciplinary dependencies related to the piping discipline Good understanding of procurement, contracting, and commissioning methodologies Good understanding of systems and workflows as they relate to the piping discipline Thorough understanding of Health, Safety, Environment, and Community (HSEC) policy and standards Sound knowledge of piping codes and standards applicable to projects Sound technical knowledge of piping engineering, including specifications, calculations, P&ID development, line sizing, material selection, isolation requirements, valve selection, and requisitioning of piping components Familiarity with the requirements and application of pipe stress analysis Knowledge of advanced piping systems Well-developed communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills Site experience in a piping technical role Experience in the technical review of vendor drawings and supplier data Preferred: Experience working on large projects in a multidisciplinary environment Extensive knowledge of 3D data-centric design systems Good knowledge of engineering management systems Strong ability to delegate tasks and promote effective team performance Experience in mentoring engineers and designers Extensive experience in the use of procedures and workflows in project execution Strong client focus Good leadership skills
