Senior Program Manager: 6-month FTC: Banking Industry

As a professional and experience Senior Program Manager you will take responsibility to implement and lead the delivery of Strategic Programs, realizing innovation and governance of the Engineering strategic roadmap, driving the alignment to the Engineering strategy, engaging stakeholders across geographies within and outside of the Group

Partner with Big Tech partners, Academic Institutions, Governments and SMEs across Africa to develop (next generation, cutting edge) engineering skills and capabilities in support of the Client group purpose: Africa’s our home, we drive her growth

To enable SMEs to become a major provider of Engineering skills and capabilities to SBG as well as to the African market at large.

Accelerate the realization of a vision of establishing Africa as the source for engineering skills through mass population exposure to 4IR knowledge and skills that will enable digital savviness, igniting innovative ways of thinking to solve problems

Your Responsibilities will include:

Strategy:

  • Provide strategic vision, operational leadership and direction during the planning and execution of the Strategic Program and co-ordinate and drive the Program to enable the realization of Group Engineering strategy and achieving Program objectives, in collaboration with Program sponsor
  • Partner with global technology leaders to build out an ecosystem platform that develops future ready skills across the Africa continent and foster partnerships that enable SMEs to comply with and meet SBG and other large institutions minimum standards of engineering capability delivery.
  • Create and maintain the Strategic Program roadmap, analyzing dependencies between initiatives driven from Group Engineering across the Group ensuring alignment with the achievement of strategic Programs and Group Engineering Transformation Journey

Engineering & Architecture:

  • Identify, direct, and lead overall Strategic Program execution, focusing on realization of Group Engineering strategic roadmap across the Group defined in Group Engineering Transformation journey
  • Monitor progress of delivery against the roadmap driving out required changes in approach to meet Strategic Program scope and timeframe expectations
  • Lead the identification, selection and management of Third-party suppliers or vendors that will support the Strategic Program
  • Report on the status, risk and issues relating to the Strategic Program and implementations at the relevant Steering Committee, recommending mitigating actions to key business stakeholders
  • Investigate and share implementation lessons learnt between stakeholders (e.g Country Head of Engineering or Head of Technology & Operations) ensuring that risks are managed proactively on a Strategic Program level
  • Oversee the documentation, contracting and measurement of Strategic Program objectives to enable achievement of Strategic Program scope, timeframe, and realization of Group Engineering strategic roadmap
  • Monitor sustainability of Strategic Program post-implementation, ensuring milestones are met and program outcomes are entrenched in achievement of the Group Engineering Transformation journey and the necessary updates to the operating model and toolbox communicated and implemented e.g. increased local employment opportunities, improved local business competitiveness and improved innovation within the geographies that Client operates in, and beyond the continent.

Client:

  • Build and leverage partnerships with world leading technology suppliers to facilitate scare-skills development through local SMEs and drive the acceleration of innovation in Africa, promoting shared value.
  • Influence Big tech to commit to investing on SMEs e.g. 30% or more of the contracts with SBG and other corporates to be spent on growing, developing skills and improve innovation.
  • Build and manage relationships with the country Chief Executive (CE), and Head of Engineering or Head of Technology & Operations, preparing for the implementation of the Strategic Program across the Group
  • Collaborate with the Group Engineering executives and other key partners and participate in the dialogue that results in a common understanding of the Group Engineering transform journey, including Strategic Programs, enabling the Group Engineering strategy
  • Manage expectations and provide clarity regarding implementation responsibilities for Strategic Program team by driving engagement with the Group Engineering and Country Engineering Executives
  • Manage and influence vendors and Third-party suppliers by maintaining a close working relationship and prioritizing requirements to manage risk and implement financial control over the Strategic Program implementation

People:

  • Drive Enterprise Engineering skills Development Program resulting in approved, certified, small enterprise providers, securing contracts for Engineering services beyond SBG, and create “work ready” employable skills for graduates
  • Manage stakeholder relationships and support the Strategic Program team by removing impediments, breaking down barriers and managing escalations that may impact delivery
  • Create Engineering skills pipeline through Big Tech partnerships resulting in a decrease of offshore contracting entities, spend and skills dependency

Data:

  • Provide status and progress reports on the Strategic Program execution and realization of strategic objectives as required as input into cross- functional management of information and reporting across Group Engineering ensuring adherence to the strategy management toolbox and standards
  • Conduct formal reviews to assess and ensure alignment of Strategic Program(s) to other Group Engineering initiatives and objectives
  • Establish metrics and measure sustainability of Engineering skills enterprise development program execution e.g. number of engineers trained through Technology partnerships, etc. and hold Big Tech partners accountable

Risk, Regulatory, Prudential and Compliance:

  • Implement the Engineering Risk Management standard within the Strategic Program ensuring alignment of risk management processes, procedures, frameworks, methods, and tools to Group policy, regulatory requirements and the strategy management toolbox and standards
  • Implement and realize the risk governance framework for Engineering risk and Group Engineering ensuring governance and compliance to the framework
  • Govern and lead the execution of the Strategic Programs across the Group ensuring alignment to the Group Engineering strategy management toolbox and standards enabling lean portfolio management
  • Provide oversight and governance on the implementation of the Strategic Program, leading the reviews and the articulation of dependencies and risks, ensuring that policies and standards are met and that clean audit results are achieved

  • Forecast and secure the budget associated with the scope of the Strategic Program by performing detailed planning, in partnership with Group Engineering Finance, gaining acceptance for revenue and operational budgets
  • Monitor and control the Strategic Program budget expenditure against the forecast and assume accountability for costs in line with organizational parameters and report to the relevant Program Steering Committee/Board
  • Manage demand and resource capacity (planning / effective utilization) responsible for resource utilization and cost management of the Strategic Program
  • Measure the outcomes and business case definition realization of the Strategic Program enabling and resulting in the effectiveness of the Group Engineering Transformation journey

What would you need?

  • Post Graduate Degree in Business Commerce
  • Post Graduate Degree in Information Technology (Preferred)
  • 8 - 10 years’ experience in Delivery Management: Portfolio/Platform
  • 8 - 10 years’ experience in Technology Partnering and Service Management
  • 8 - 10 years’ experience in Technology Business Partnering, Strategy and Planning
  • More than 10 years’ experience within the Financial Services industry developing and maintaining relationships with C-suite and Senior Business Leaders. Working in an environment where work is actioned through Senior Business Leaders and Product Owners. Ability to be seen as trusted business advisor to deliver on strategy initiatives. Working with multiple parties with varying and complex business challenges
  • 8 – 10 Years’ experience in strategy development and co-creation with a slant on digital transformation and thought leadership. Champion key strategic initiatives by gaining support and endorsement from scoping, governance approval and initiative closure. Support the delivery of the initiative by influencing Business and Big Tech
