JOB SUMMARY:
Introduction
One of the world’s leading renewable energy companies and a leading international energy project development company, with more than 1,000 employees worldwide is looking for a Senior Sustainability Manager (m/f/d), you will help ensure that all projects deliver on their commitments and obligations in relation to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) aspects. You would have line reporting into the PD Team but functional reporting into the various other units requiring ESG services.
The business is focused on deploying the highest quality Solar Photovoltaic and Onshore Wind energy projects. Our client offers Project Development (Wind & Solar), Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC), and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) services for the transition to greater utilisation of sustainable energy globally and are also recognised leaders in off-grid hybrid solar-wind-thermal-storage energy solutions.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Duties and Responsibilities

The identification, implementation, and coordination of the various ESG related tasks necessary to ensure compliance with both our clients and regulatory authoritiesâ requirements, and including:
Leading the environmental and social due diligence tasks, primarily for the Project and Business Development Teams, but also for the Hybrid Sales, EPC and O&M Teams and whenever possible.
Project development support, primarily for the Project and Business Development Teams, but also for the Hybrid Sales, EPC and O&M Teams and whenever possible.
Developing an understanding of the relationship between site selection, technical design, permitting requirements and project economics in order to be able to develop the best possible projects (optimised at capex or tariff level).
Liaising with the respective statutory organisations.
EnsuringÂ the respective project permits, licenses, and approvals are obtained and validities maintained.
Drafting of ESG related policies and assisting with their implementation when required, including the Environmental Social Management Systems for EPC, and O&M.
Assisting with Client and subcontractor Environmental, Social and Governance review.
Establishment and management of the relevant task budget.
ManagingÂ project compliance with Equator Principles and IFC Performance Standards.
Participation in project and programme reviews when required.

Qualifications and Experience:

A degree in Environmental Science, Law or similar.
Proven ability to speak and write fluently in English.
High degree of project development and environmental experience within the renewable energy sector (ideally within REIPPPP) or in other industries facing similar challenges, such as infrastructure and construction.
Possession of a valid, South Africa Code 08 driverâs license.
Motivated, driven and ability to self-manage.
Strong administrative skills.
Proven ability to work within a small project development team and across business units.
Proven ability to solve problems creatively.
Proven experience of successfully managing multiple projects within budget and on schedule.

Desirable Attributes

Thorough understanding of the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment (DFFE) Environmental Authorisation assessment process; ideally with respect to renewable energy projects.
Understanding of the International Environmental and Social standards, including Equator Principles and IFC Performance Standards.
Able to perform research, write articles and present to an audience.
