A leading maize milling company in Bethlehem, Free State, is seeking a skilled and dedicated Shift Miller to join their production team. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a high-performing operation, ensuring quality maize products are produced efficiently while upholding the highest standards of food safety and workplace safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a production shift from raw maize intake to finished product, ensuring equipment operates at design capacity, product meets specifications, and wastage is minimized.
- Ensure maize quality adheres to standards, checking for infestation or contamination, and optimize cleaning, grading, and conditioning processes.
- Set mill for profitable extraction, adjust based on hourly checks, verify daily production figures, and minimize product loss or rejects.
- Maintain milling equipment for peak performance, identifying, repairing, or reporting worn components (e.g., V-belts, bearings) to minimize downtime.
- Ensure products meet specifications through regular sampling, testing, and documenting corrective actions on quality control sheets.
- Maintain a tidy mill, prevent spillages, and ensure no contaminants are present to comply with FSSC 22000 food safety standards.
- Lead a disciplined workforce, planning schedules, addressing absenteeism, enforcing disciplinary codes, and identifying training needs.
- Complete food safety checklists, ensure proper PPE usage, and maintain a safe working environment in compliance with the OHS Act.
Key Skills:
- Strong analytical, numerical, and mechanical skills for optimizing mill performance and equipment maintenance.
- Excellent communication skills to lead teams and coordinate with internal stakeholders.
- Assertiveness in meeting production targets and quality goals.
- Proficiency in Excel and Outlook for reporting and communication.
- Working knowledge of pest control, fumigation, and maize milling equipment maintenance.
Minimum Requirements:
- Qualified Maize Miller (Grain Milling Federation certification).
- At least 3 years’ experience as a Miller in a maize mill.
- Good understanding of Labour Relations Act, OHS Act, and FSSC 22000 food safety standards.
- Knowledge of food safety requirements in an FMCG environment.
