SUMMARY:
Harmony Gold Mining Company is building a talent pipeline for highly professional and legally compliant Shift Bosses to support future underground mining operations. This pipeline opportunity is aimed at identifying strong supervisory leaders capable of driving quality work and ensuring team targets are safely achieved.
Successful candidates will be considered for upcoming opportunities and will be expected to fulfil a formal statutory appointment, fostering a proactive safety culture, eliminating substandard practices, and coordinating essential support services to achieve an objective of zero harm. This opportunity is best suited to individuals with strong leadership capability, operational discipline, and a commitment to safe and efficient underground mining standards.

POSITION INFO:
Duties & Responsibilities The Shift Boss is responsible for ensuring safe production target are achieved through quality work, applying standards and procedures by each team to ensure zero harm is achieved by all. Planning will cover a period that ranges from 1 day to 3 months and involves the supply of resources (Material & Equipment) on a day-to-day basis. The job entails a proactive approach to all safety issues in the workplace and also requires effective supervision and coordination of other support functions, i.e. Survey, Geology, HR, Stores, Administration, etc., whose input is vital for safe and efficient operations. The jobholder provides strong leadership ensuring all safety issues are fully complied with, including, controlling and directing all activities of subordinates, by engaging all team members in his area of responsibility and as such takes on the role of coach, mentor and instructor to explain how the work should be performed. Creates a safe efficient work environment in which the team can perform to their full potential and competence. The shift Boss must report on a daily basis to the Mine Overseer as per legal appointment and logbook findings Key to the role is the translation and implementation of decisions by focusing on improving and optimising communication under guidance of management. The Shift Boss is responsible and accountable for the safe execution of tasks by subordinates and to initiate and implement corrective action where applicable immediately on all safe production matters. Planning of the job is done with his\/her supervisor and miner(s) daily. Organising, controlling and coordinating is done in accordance with other stakeholders e.g. Stores, Transport, timberman, banksman, etc. The incumbent executes a large variety of activities and works to strict requirements. As indicated in Managerial Instruction Policies, Standards and COP's. He\/she is responsible for his\/her own safety as well as for others according to the Mine Health and Safety Act. With the focus on zero harm and adherence to standards and safe practices. The effort to perform this role requires physical and mental fitness. Desired Experience & Qualification Education: Grade 12. Experience: Four years of Gold Mining experience as a miner. Qualifications: Valid Blasting Certificate (Hard Rock \/ Metalliferous Mines) and Risk Assessment Level 1. Licensing: Code 08 driver's license. Health & Safety: Valid Medical Certificate of Fitness and a valid First Aid Certificate. Language & Computing: English proficiency and computer literacy.
