Purpose of Role:

To lead the multi national client service operation in South Africa, Sandton based

 

Responsibilities:

  • Vision and Strategy
  • Set a strategy for the country that aligns to the global strategy and local priorities.
  • Communicate a compelling vision and stretch goals for the company to drive growth of the Company’s business within the country.
  • Demonstrate thought leadership on multinational issues, both externally and internally.

 Leadership and talent management

  • Build the best team: develop and objectively promote the best people and address underperformance quickly and effectively.
  • Promote a culture of accountability and empowerment.
  • Ensure that client-facing colleagues understand the role and value of the company, and fully support the company as a key asset and differentiator.
  • Ensure close collaboration between the company’s teams and local sales teams and client executives (MMB, Specialty, etc.).
  • Develop broad and deep relationships across all areas of the enterprise, and collaborate effectively. 
  • Develop a strong succession pipeline for key positions, including own role.
  • Support the training of local colleagues within and outside of the company.

 Clients and Markets

  • Demonstrate full knowledge of the company’s portfolio in the country, and identify and drive the changes required to improve performance and quality.
  • Support country efforts to improve client retention, and to meet retention targets by driving retention in the company’s portfolio.
  • Articulate the value of the company’s clients and prospects, and ensure that this is applied consistently
  • Provide strategic advice on multinational risk issues, including emerging risks and trends, and program design.
  • Ensure that strategic account plans are in place for the country’s top 25 multinational clients and top 25 at risk relationships.
  • Engage with leading insurer partners to enhance client offerings.

 Growth

  • Drive growth across the two dimensions of sales in the company:
  • Initiate and utilize ‘white space’ analysis to identify local opportunities related to the company’s existing country multinational client base, and effectively execute plans to realize revenue from these areas.  Drive effective cross selling initiatives with all incoming business in all countries within the country. Collaborate with other regions / countries to track inwards investment opportunities into the country (and vice versa).
  • Work with local placement leaders to enhance local earnings on incoming business via facilities / binders for ancillary insurances.
  • Ensure that local marketing content is up to date and readily available, working closely with the company’s central knowledge management team.
  • Support country efforts to gain and expand RM and large Corporate business.

 Financial management

  • Be fully accountable for the financial performance and results of the company’s team in the country.
  • Drive all revenue enhancing initiatives within the country team.
  • Collect & report country income, as defined, with improved timeliness and accuracy.
  • Ensure that in the country there is a precise understanding of the size and overall P&L performance of multinational business.
  • Demonstrate effective expense management.

 

Operational Management

  • Take accountability for the quality and consistency of network service provision within the country’s team.
  • Ensure that the company’s Standards and Guiding Principles are followed by the team.
  • Ensure that the company’s tools (and specifically Global Connect) are used by respective client service team members.
  • Ensure that the network compensation module is implemented for all multinational clients.
  • Build a strong relationship with all key producing offices.
  • Resolve all country disputes effectively, e.g. on local remuneration etc.
  • In respect of global account producing countries, drive the performance of the international advisory practices to ensure that best practices are shared, and effective connections are developed across the international advisory community

 Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree plus Insurance qualification (ACII or equivalent)
  • 5-10 years’ experience in Commercial Insurance
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Other languages are a plus
