Short term pricing Actuary

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the design, development, and deployment of predictive models across underwriting, claims, and customer segmentation.
• Integrate emerging data sources (geospatial, behavioural, external datasets) to enhance pricing accuracy and risk differentiation.
• Drive model governance, transparency, documentation, and ethical data‑use standards.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally to deliver high‑impact analytical and pricing solutions across multiple business units.
• Partner with enterprise‑wide analytics teams to align modelling practices and adopt leading techniques and toolsets.
• Mentor and support junior analysts and actuarial students.

Job Experience and Skills Required:

Education:

• Nearly qualified actuary with 10+ actuarial exams completed.
• Membership with a recognised actuarial association (e.g. ASSA or IFoA).

Experience:

• 5+ years actuarial or data science experience in short‑term insurance pricing, risk, or analytics.
• Proven hands‑on modelling experience within a live insurance environment – essential.
• Experience building pricing models from first principles, including GLMs, decision trees, ensemble methods, gradient boosting, XGBoost, etc.
• Ability to demonstrate measurable commercial impact from deployed models.

Technical Skills:

• Strong proficiency in Python, R, SQL, Power BI, and actuarial tools such as Emblem, Radar, and ResQ.
• Machine Learning: libraries such as pandas, scikit‑learn, XGBoost (please specify experience).
• Understanding of automation, deployment, and model lifecycle management.
• Earnix experience advantageous.
• Exposure to SAM or IFRS 17 beneficial.

Soft Skills / Commercial Competencies:

• Ability to translate complex quantitative outputs into business‑ready insights.
• Strong communication and stakeholder‑influencing ability.
• Analytical thinking, problem‑solving, and commercial awareness.
• Experience mentoring or coaching junior staff.
