POSITION INFO:
Job Description:
The Systems Administrator is responsible for maintaining and optimising the organisation’s IT infrastructure across the warehousing and distribution environment. The role ensures the stability, performance, and security of all on-premises and virtualised systems, including Hyper-V hosts, Windows Servers, network infrastructure, and the Syspro ERP environment. The incumbent provides technical support to operational teams, resolves system incidents, and contributes to ongoing improvements that enhance warehouse productivity, accuracy, and business continuity
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Server & Virtualisation Management
• Administer and maintain Microsoft Hyper-V clusters, virtual machines, storage configurations, and failover processes.
• Monitor VM performance, capacity utilisation, and resource allocation to ensure optimal system availability.
• Perform regular system patching, OS updates, and hardware diagnostics.
Syspro ERP Administration
• Manage Syspro application servers, SQL database performance, and integrations used across warehouse operations.
• Support end-users with Syspro issues, transaction errors, and workflow disruptions.
• Monitor Syspro services, licensing, archiving, and database backups.
• Coordinate system upgrades, hotfix deployments, and testing.
Warehouse Systems Support
• Oversee IT systems supporting warehousing operations, including handheld scanners, label printers, RF devices, and Wi-Fi connectivity in high-density environments.
• Troubleshoot connectivity issues that impact picking, receiving, dispatch, and barcode scanning.
• Ensure uptime of warehouse-critical systems, including WMS modules linked to Syspro.
Network & Infrastructure Management
• Maintain LAN/WAN connectivity across warehouses, including switches, APs, firewalls, and VLAN configurations.
• Proactively monitor network performance and resolve latency or routing issues.
• Maintain structured cabling, IP allocations, and device inventories.
Backup, Security & Business Continuity
• Manage daily backups for servers, Syspro SQL databases, and virtual machines.
• Implement and maintain cybersecurity controls including antivirus, patching, and access management.
• Assist with disaster recovery planning and conduct periodic DR tests.
• Monitor logs and alerts to ensure early detection of threats or failures.
User Support & Incident Management
• Provide 1st–3rd line support for warehouse, admin, finance, and management teams.
• Respond to and resolve incidents related to servers, Syspro, printers, networking, and user devices.
• Maintain documentation of incidents, fixes, FAQs, and SOPs.
IT Asset & License Management
• Maintain an accurate inventory of hardware, software, VMs, and Syspro licenses.
• Oversee procurement, deployment, and lifecycle management of IT assets.
• Ensure compliance with software licensing agreements.
Projects & Continuous Improvement
• Participate in IT projects such as infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and Syspro enhancements.
• Optimise warehouse processes through automation, improved device configurations, and system tuning.
• Provide input into IT strategy for warehousing operations.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Matric
• IT Diploma or MCITP essential
• 3 – 5 years’ experience with exposure to IT systems
• Licence and own transport are essential
• Good knowledge of IP networks and protocols
• Good understanding of network services
• Detailed knowledge of computer hardware
• Strong experience with:
o Virtual environments
o Windows Server (2016/2019/2022)
o Active Directory, DNS, DHCP
o Syspro ERP (administration, basic SQL, troubleshooting)
o Networking (switching, routing, VLANs, Wi-Fi)
• Microsoft Terminal server knowledge advantageous
• Syspro experience advantageous
• Knowledge of warehousing or manufacturing environments highly beneficial.
• Experience with barcode scanners, RF devices, label printers, and warehouse Wi-Fi environments is an advantage.
