POSITION INFO:

Rare opportunity to join a small / focused Technical Accounting team sitting within a Group Finance team. Financial services industry. Cape Town based role.

This is an exciting technical accounting role with excellent exposure across a variety of related business units, each with their own technical and compliance requirements.

The role is responsible for maintaining and assisting with the implementation of appropriate accounting policies across the business, reviewing Financial Statements to ensure compliance with the relevant accounting standards, JSE Listing and Companies Act requirements, preparation of update papers to the Group Audit Committee and more.

Technical Advisory

• Advising on structuring and accounting consequences of proposed corporate activity.
• Act as a central Professional Practice Department (PPD) or center of excellence for all technical accounting related topics.
• Interpreting, communicating and advising on accounting standards and disclosures throughout the business to ensure consistency of application and reporting standards.
• Advising group reporting and business segment finance teams in resolving technical accounting issues.

Governance & Compliance

• Responsible for the operation, maintenance and consistent application of accounting policies relevant to the production of all financial information prepared by the business.Â
• Ensuring that any material changes are approved in accordance with the business’s governance structures.
• Development of updates to technical accounting standards across the business and the resulting consequences on the accounting manual.
• Liaising with relevant operational managers to coordinate compliance with policy, approvals of changes to policy and introduction of new policies.

Knowledge Sharing & Professional Development

• Drive continuous improvement through knowledge sharing, training and review.
• Maintains up-to-date technical accounting knowledge hub and review of industry practice.

Financial Statements

• Support the finance team in producing the financial statements templates for the business for interim and annual reporting.
• Technical review of interim and annual Group financial statements to ensure that disclosures are in accordance with accounting standards, JSE Listing and Companies Act requirements.

This role is suited to a quality CA(SA) + 4-6 years post qualified experience, and a demonstrated understanding of IFRS and technical application.Â
