Technical Buyer

SUMMARY:
A well-established international organisation in the industrial equipment sector is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Technical Buyer. This role plays a critical part in sourcing, negotiating, and procuring technical products, equipment, and services that support operational efficiency and project success.

POSITION INFO:
The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge, supplier management expertise, and the ability to balance cost, quality, and delivery while ensuring compliance with internal policies and industry standards.

Qualifications & Experience

• 2–5 years’ experience in technical buying, procurement, or technical support
• National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field (Preferred)
• Prior experience with a multinational/global industrial company (Advantageous)

Key Responsibilities

• Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers and subcontractors for technical goods and services
• Interpret technical drawings, specifications, and BOMs to determine procurement needs
• Manage purchase orders from initiation through to delivery, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
• Monitor supplier performance, conduct evaluations, and maintain strong supplier relationships
• Negotiate with vendors to optimise costs while ensuring quality and delivery commitments
• Address supplier issues related to quality, pricing, or delivery
• Prepare procurement reports, forecasts, and administrative documentation
• Support sales order processing and coordinate with logistics and internal teams for timely fulfilment
• Align with finance on payment terms, credit limits, and invoicing support
• Provide accurate, consistent feedback to management and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives

Technical Skills

• Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Outlook) with strong data analysis and reporting skills
• Exposure to ERP systems: Sage X3, SAP, SYSPRO (Advantageous)
• Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent organisational ability with strong attention to detail
