Technical Manager: IT Development: Cape Town

Leads and defines bespoke software development strategy within the Central Application Team to drive innovation and using latest software engineering technologies to meet the business needs. This role is a combination of technical, delivery and people management and provides technical leadership, people leadership and coaching to developers across multiple agile teams. The successful candidate has strong technical leadership experience with a solid software engineering background. The Development Manager must be familiar with all the policies, procedures and technical aspects related to software development and will be “go to” person when it comes to supporting software engineering concepts in the team. This is a permanent position based at the Head Office in Cape Town.

Job description:

  • Guides, reviews, and approves technical solution designs, striving towards a reusable API environment where appropriate.
  • Provides technical leadership across agile teams ensuring they are aligned and deliver to the development strategy, patterns and standards that respect compliance, security, operational best practice, and best possible user experience.
  • Provides agile bespoke development capability in response to business requirements and technology exploitation.
  • Drives developer training plans and on-boarding to ensure relevant and up to date digital development skills are available.
  • Drives bespoke development architecture and coding standards in line with Client’s digital transformation strategy.
  • Measures developer quality and efficiency.
  • Assists the leadership team in building a digitally capable, business relevant API developer pipeline within the team.
  • Collaborates with the leadership team to set development technologies, architectures, coding standards and processes that enable a speed with quality agile delivery culture.
  • Staying current with emerging new technology.
  • Leads by example and can get into the technical details of the development landscape when needed.

Minimum requirements

  • Qualifications – NQF8 level in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent with experience in software development.
  • 5 -10 years software development experience (C#, .Net, .NET Core, Java)
  • 2 years as a Solution Architect.
  • Cloud Computing -Saas (AWS or Azure)
  • 3 to 5 years working in a lead or management role.
  • Platform creation through API’s.

  • Accurately interprets the moods, feelings and reactions of others and adjusts own behavior to build effective relationships within the organization and with its business partners
  • Establishes connections that help facilitate the accomplishment of broader organizational objectives.
  • Consistently addresses groups of people confidently.
  • Continually and proactively searches for effective means of adaptation and improvement through change
  • Supports the development of business acumen of team through knowledge sharing and upskilling.
  • Factors in retail models and levers in building an effective IT landscape.
