Automotive Technical Trainer

POSITION INFO:

The job role exists to support the Client Markets with appropriate training to support technician competence development. The role is based in Pretoria and may require extensive travel across the region. The role supports the clients’ brands, and will require attendance at Train the Trainer events or observe client training courses. Alignment with client processes is paramount for the use of resources and implementation of methodologies, however business needs may drive additional programs as required.

Principal Accountabilities

• Proficiency with required courses and delivery across the markets using most appropriate training methods
• Maintain a rolling calendar for the markets to support new model launch, competence and skills gaps plus business needs as appropriate
• Identify resource requirements, and work with the training Manager and the client central market support team to eliminate any restrictions and deliver a suitable solution
• Deliver Training as required; based on information from technical support functions, competence needs as guided by The Training Manager etc.
• Co-ordinate market requests, and find appropriate solutions
• Report Weekly and Monthly on the Training Metrics, report findings
• Support the launch of STARS training system and monitor use
• Provide the technical leadership in the brand.
• Maintain own technical knowledge and ability, through on-going self-study, technical training, both local as well as international e.g. Train the Trainer programmes
• Technical training of the dealer technical staff, in order to improve the overall diagnostic skill of the dealership personnel, ensure understanding and compliance of available resource libraries (PTS, STARS)
• Theoretical training into the correct use of workshop equipment, diagnostic equipment and special tools in order that repairs are effective and permanent.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required

• Technically qualified as appropriate, time served apprentice
• An outstanding knowledge of vehicle technology including electronic control, petrol and diesel technology.
• Fluent English spoken and written
• Self motivated, ability to work alone in market, using resources available
• Sets the standards and lives by them
• Flexible, to support on market visits as required
• Experienced Automotive Trainer  of at least 3 years, with 5 years workshop experience
• Good inter-personal skills with the ability to coach, train and motivate internal as well as external customer service staff. 
• Supports the dealer network in order to grow the business.  Facilitate improved dealer performance and addresses problems effectively. 
• A self-motivator who sustains focus on results and assumes accountability for the effective conclusion of projects/tasks. 
• The position requires self-management and independence with little supervision. 
• Preferred – certification as facilitator and assessor will be advantage.

• Training Needs Analysis effectiveness
• Training evaluation/ Dealer satisfaction
• Use of STARS online booking and WBT
• Achieve defined levels of delegate competence within the Dealer/ country

Markets

The job may require extensive travel in South Africa and neighbouring markets to deliver training
