An opportunity for a mature and experienced TRUCK & COMMERCIAL DEALER PRINCIPAL is required for permanent employment based on the Ermelo.
Reporting to the Group Director and Finance Director, The D.P. will be expected to:
- Instil and administer operating policies and standards designed to assure competitive representation of products and services.
- Maximizing on return of investments.
- You will shape the strategic positioning and development of the dealership, and assume responsibility for the.

- The budget planning
- Leading and steering of your management team and thus achieve the targets set for the dealership.
- Be highly motivated and with a distinct goal orientation you will enjoy leading your sales and service team to success.
- You will be a problem solver with a passion for leading and developing your staff.
- With several years of previous managerial experience, you will have good knowledge about the commercial / truck automotive industry.
- In addition to your ability to communicate and your creativity, you will be able to motivate your employees to achieve top performance.

- Development of the dealership by developing and implementing innovative sales and marketing strategies and driving the business.
- Management and development of employees through disciplinary and functional guidance and target setting.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Staff Management & Training
- Ensure that all staff practice good customer and staff relations, which will enhance customer image, thereby leading to repeat business.
- Promote team spirit, unity and harmony amongst all staff.
- Ensure good employee relations, holding individual and collective discussions aimed at maintaining a work environment conducive to maximising work performance.
- Ensure that training processes are in place, aimed at all staff being trained so as to best perform their duties.
- Arrange monthly meetings of senior departmental staff, recording discussions and ensuring implementation of decisions.
- Ensure that the admin staff job functions are complied with, limited to their job description and that they are able to perform the job function of other admin staff.
- Maintain good liaison with Executives and line managers.
- Operate staff performance appraisal system and manage. performance and deal with poor performance immediately.
- Liaise with the HSE department to ensure adequate safety and security measures have been installed to protect personnel and property.
- Create a high-performance culture and climate in the dealership.
- Strong ability to attract, motivate and retain talent.
- Develop and encourage strong working relationships at all levels in the business.
- Establish and agree on labour and staff requirements with Executives, Line management, and HR.
- Ensure training needs are met and accurate records are kept maximizing possible grants.
- To compile and review departmental activities and reporting systems.
Customer Service
- Assist where necessary in the handling of customer and public relations.
- Ensure that premises are clean, tidy and conducive to business.
- Ensure that company vehicles are regularly maintained, clean and presentable.
- Instigate research into customer satisfaction and requirements for improvement.
- Create a customer-centric environment and maximize customer service levels.
- Ensure all customer invoices have been prepared and submitted.
Legal Compliance and Security
- Ensure that the companies’ policies and procedures are adhered to.
- Ensure that all safety and local authority requirements are adhered to.
- Ensure that security measures are in place so as to minimise losses.
- Ensure that group requirements and expectations of all departments are complied with.
- Monitor Labour performance against known standards.
- Ability to deliver bottom-line results while ensuring compliance with company policies and corporate governance.
- Cost control of expenses in line with budget objectives.
- Carry out monthly examinations of management accounts.
- Manage risk and ensure audit requirement compliance.
- Ensure dealer compliance with franchise standards and target requirements.
Business Management
- Create a high-performance culture and climate in the dealership.
- Ensure that no unpaid services rendered, or un-invoiced trading stock leave the premises.
- Ensure that stocks are ordered timeously, so as not to interrupt supplies and further, to ensure that sufficient stock is available to meet customer demand.
- Monitor and control the availability of vehicle and parts.
- To improve stock turnover ratios, reduce stock holding value and increase sales to meet Company objectives.
- To be able to apply modern business methods.
- Ensure maximum efficiency and profitability of the branch whilst giving customer satisfaction.
- Ensure high standards of quality and workmanship.
- Cost control of expenses in line with budget objectives
- Develop and encourage strong working relationships at all levels in the business.
- To compile and review departmental activities and reporting systems.
- Control cash flow, stock, and assets at a level commensurate with profit requirements and a satisfactory return on investment.
- Direct Liaison with manufacturers, professional bodies, suppliers, statutory representatives, and all other contacts
Sales Management
- Support sales with pre-approved advertising and promotions.
- Liaise with Marketing Department to plan the completion of sales campaigns, advertising, and promotional activities and to ensure their cost-effectiveness.
- Monitor and analyse departmental and branch sales and expenses so as to ensure attainment of monthly and annual targets.
- Ensure the branch attains overall net profit margins as per their objectives.
- Observe and report on activities of competitors.
- Must be able to develop and implement strategies for growth.
- Implement corrective action where necessary, so as to attain CSI results equal to, or better, than national average of all individuals and departments.
- Maximize Company profitability through the sale of vehicles, associated products, parts, and labour.
- Assist in reviewing pricing policies, sales discounts, fleet discounts, parts pricing, and labour rates.
- Forecast peak sales criteria and cash requirements.
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
- An experienced individual with a proven track record within the commercial motor industry / dealership environment.
- A minimum of at least 6-8 years’ experience within a Dealer Principal role.
- Relevant / position related tertiary education Degree / Diploma (adv)
- Relevant training and/or certificates etc (advantage)
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Computer literate (Microsoft packages)
- In-house dealerships operating systems exp.
- Driver’s licence + (Code 14 adv)

- Sound understanding of sales, service, and parts.
- Sound knowledge of Manufacturer and Distributor requirements.
